Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a PRN Medical Assistant for the Neurology Clinic. The role supports patient flow by preparing patients, assisting clinicians, and handling clerical tasks in a fast-paced neuro clinic.

Responsibilities include patient prep, vital signs, specimen handling, medication ordering support, and comprehensive medical record maintenance. Requires BLS and MA program completion; on-site, part-time position at Olathe Medical Pavilion A.

Qualifications

• High school graduate required.
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or one year MA experience (or CCMA/NCRMA certification).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred/required within 14 days.

Responsibilities

• Accurately schedules tests, obtains films/reports, and prepares lab specimens per policy.
• Assists physicians and nurses with procedures as defined on competency checklist.
• Coordinates patient care with the health care team and records patient history elements.
• Electronically submits prescriptions and refills to outpatient pharmacies.
• Maintains medical records and ensures required documentation is available.
• Keeps exam rooms organized, stocked, and logs equipment checks (e.g., fridges, carts).
• Performs clerical duties: greeting, scheduling, pre-certification, insurance forms, and billing.
• Performs routine vital signs and basic screening; supports unit/department competencies.
