UPMC Procirca in Pittsburgh is seeking a full-time Neurodiagnostic Technician I to join a dedicated team. Perform EEG, EP, PSG, or NCS procedures under supervision to help diagnose nervous system disorders.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or higher with 6 months of patient care experience
• Associate or Bachelor degree in a related field
• END training program with credential within 2 years of hire

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment to record nervous system responses and provide objective measures of neuron function.
• Collaborate with supervisor and medical staff to address laboratory procedures and equipment.
• Maintain and troubleshoot neurodiagnostic equipment to ensure proper operation.
• Document medical history from patient or family.
• Respond to medical emergencies to ensure patient safety and follow unit procedures.
• Identify EEG waveforms and communicate findings to medical staff.
• Schedule and prepare patients for procedures and ensure proper electrode placement.

Job description

UPMC Procirca is looking for a full time Neurodiagnostic Technician 1 to join their dedicated team!

Perform under direct supervision and according to established guidelines and procedures, routine and complex procedures to obtain data for use in the clinical diagnosis of disorders of the nervous system in at least one of the following modalities of Neurodiagnostics: Electroencephalogarphy (EEG), Evoked Potentials (EP), Epilepsy Monitoring and Polysomnograhy (PSG), or Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS). Perform duties in various diagnostic and research areas as assigned.

This role will work rotating shifts 24/7, daylight, evening, and nights, supporting UPMC Procirca sites around the Pittsburgh area.

Responsibilities

• Operate computer equipment to record nervous system responses that provide quantitative and objective measures of the neuronal/sensory function.
• Collaborate with supervisor and medical personnel to resolve problems and to advise concerning laboratory procedures, techniques and equipment.
• Clean, adjust and perform routine maintenance and repair on neurodiagnostic equipment to ensure proper functioning. Troubleshoot routine equipment problems.
• Document pertinent medical history from the patient or family members.
• React in medical emergencies to ensure patient safety; know unit and hospital procedures for working with high acuity patients.
• Recognize changes in the clinical condition of the patient and correlate those changes with the EEG. Discriminate the changes requiring intervention such as seizures or cardiac arrhythmia.
• Schedule patients for neurodiagnostic procedures and obtain required medical information; explain procedures, alleviate fears, and elicit cooperation. Prepare patient for tests to include measuring and marking cranial area and fastening electrodes to specified positions on scalp and body.
• Perform procedures with appropriate documentation.
• Identify EEG waveforms/patterns during testing and communicate to medical personnel.
• HS diploma and 6 months of patient care OR
• an Assoc or Bachelor degree.
• *Procirca Employees Only: This position requires the successful completion of the END training program and obtaining the appropriate modality specific credential within two (2) years of the employee's hire date. Failure to meet credentialing requirements within this timeframe may impact continued employment in the role, per departmental standards.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
