Qualifications

• Registered or Registry-eligible in EEG and/or EP.

Job description

Overview

The Neurodiagnostic/OR Technologist demonstrates excellent customer service performance in a manner consistent with Covenant HealthCare's Vision, Mission and Values and the Extraordinary Care for Every Generation commitment. Under limited supervision, this role provides high quality EEGs, EPs, NCVs, Ambulatory EEGs, Transcranial Doppler studies and all aspects of Intraoperative Monitoring. The technologist operates several different types of machines and computers and maintains a safe and comfortable environment for patients. Clinical contact with patients spans all age groups (neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric) with care guided by age-appropriate protocols defined by Covenant HealthCare.

Responsibilities

• Has clinical contact with patients in all age groups and appropriately assesses, cares for and treats them according to age-appropriate care guidelines as defined by Covenant HealthCare.
• Performs EEGs and Ambulatory EEGs using the 10/20 International System, applies electrodes correctly, follows protocol for infants and cerebral death assessments, and troubleshoots to eliminate artifacts and technical problems.
• Performs Evoked Potential testing with proper electrode application and stimulation of correlating central nervous system pathways.
• Performs nerve conduction velocity testing per physician protocol and/or direction.
• Performs Transcranial Doppler studies per departmental protocol.
• Performs intraoperative monitoring for all neuro cases with appropriate peripheral and cortical leads.
• Assesses the patient before surgery and confers with the surgeon on the monitoring technique used during surgery, ensuring the monitored pathway is protected.
• Maintains an accurate and concise intraoperative log describing surgical events and physiological status.
• Informs the physician during surgery of test changes after careful troubleshooting to eliminate technical errors.
• Able to troubleshoot technical errors quickly and resume monitoring in the operating room.
• Completes paperwork for all testing procedures for charts, files and physicians.
• Maintains proficiency in computer systems (HIS, PACS, QC, email, etc.).
• Cleans electrodes, monitoring equipment and patient rooms.
• Communicates with manager, co-workers and physicians about changes, ideas, concerns and problems within the lab.
• Works as a team with technologists to support safety, quality assurance and regulatory requirements, and participates in continuous quality improvement.
• Reports operational, functional and system problems to the manager.
• Promotes positive customer and employee relations through professional, courteous and effective interactions with customers, staff and physicians.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience
Registered or Registry-eligible in EEG and/or EP.
Preferred: Five years of clinical experience in Neurodiagnostic Testing Procedures; one to two years of OR monitoring experience.
