Qualifications

• Six-month training leading to independent operation of evoked potential equipment.
• Equivalent of one year full-time EEG technician experience in a hospital, clinic, or physician's office.
• BLS Basic Life Support certification from AHA.

Responsibilities

• Attach electrodes to prescribed cranial areas and select appropriate electrodes.
• Check calibration signals and electrode resistance; adjust to obtain satisfactory tracings.
• Type EEG and evoked potential reports dictated by the Neurologist and maintain records.
• Interview patients for medical history and calm anxious patients.
• Observe patient during tests, noting artifacts from blinking, swallowing, or muscle movement.
• Perform minor maintenance and repair on EEG equipment and arrange for complex repairs.
• Record, identify, and interpret tracings before sending to the physician.
