Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care—recognized as one of the best hospitals in the United States—seeks a Patient Care Technician for the Vascular and Neuroscience Intermediate and Acute Care Unit (2 RCP) on the University Campus in Iowa City. This full-time role involves vitals, aseptic care, basic procedures, admissions/discharges, and patient comfort in a 34-bed unit.

Rotating shifts with weekends/holidays apply.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Independently obtain and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
• Carries out medical asepsis when performing skills and tasks including phlebotomy, peripheral IV removal, and Foley catheter removal and cares for patients who are medically isolated.
• Performs simple diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as enemas, preoperative skin prep, dressing changes, collecting specimens, applying binders, braces, etc.
• Assists with patient admission, transfers, and discharges.
• Directly provides for patients' personal hygiene and comfort.
• Turns, positions and ambulates patients.
