Job summary

UCSF Health's Neuro ICU is seeking an Unit Director (Nurse Manager) to lead 24-hour operations and ensure safe, high-quality care for critically ill neurological patients. You will plan, organize, and direct staffing, budgets—overseeing about 140 staff and a $20M budget—and collaborate with physician leaders and nursing colleagues.

Reporting to the Patient Care Director, you will drive regulatory compliance, quality improvement, staff development, recruitment, and succession planning, while

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing required.
• Progressive and recent nursing administration and leadership experience in an ICU at assistant nurse manager level or above in last 5 years.
• Registered Nurse in the State of California.
• BLS by American Heart Association.
• ACLS by American Heart Association.
• Strong hospital management experience with in-depth patient care services expertise.
• Knowledge of hospital operations and professional standards for department and team.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, accreditation, licensing and compliance.
• Knowledge of healthcare IT and patient care workflows.
• Flexibility to work at all UCSF locations as needed.
• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills for collaborative decision making.
• Excellent leadership, fiscal and operations management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead 24-hour planning, organizing, directing and controlling Neuro ICU operations.
• Oversee approximately 140 staff and a $20M operating budget.
• Direct reports include Assistant Unit Directors and clinical nurses.
• Drive quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with Joint Commission Stroke Center requirements.
• Recruit, mentor and develop nurse leaders and succession plans.
• Collaborate with physicians and inter-professional teams to expand neuroscience services.
• Promote shared governance and interdisciplinary teamwork across UCSF locations.
