Job summary

The role requires TS/SCI with Polygraph, 5+ years providing IT support, and hands‑on Linux OS experience including STIG implementation and AD integration in Linux. Expect monitoring, incident resolution, and collaboration with senior staff across sites.

Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph within last 6 years.
  • 5+ years of hands-on IT customer service experience.
  • 5+ years on IT/software programs with complex equipment/systems.
  • Experience with Linux OS installation, updates, upgrades.
  • Experience STIG requirements in Linux OS.
  • Experience creating/configuring Linux network connections.
  • Experience Windows Active Directory user authentication in Linux OS.
  • Proficient reading/modifying Linux User/Group permissions.
  • Experience IT system optimization and monitoring.
  • Experience Data Center design and configuration.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor infrastructure systems, applications and processes; identify, track and resolve issues.
  • Provide support for infrastructure and respond to hardware/software incidents; may work with senior admins remotely.
  • Respond to Help Desk requests promptly; escalate as needed and follow up with users.
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software issues including network connectivity.
  • Use enterprise monitoring tools to identify alarms; report status to users.
  • Execute IAVA processes and system security scans; remediate IAVA patches.
  • Provide technical assistance to other teams on overlapping projects.
  • Maintain documentation for incident resolution and process clarity.

Role Description

  • Must have experience installing, updating, and upgrading Linux Operating Systems (OS).
  • Must have experience with utilities used to manage Linux OS disk file systems.
  • Must have experience analyzing and implementing Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) requirements in Linux OS.
  • Must have experience with utilities used to create and configure network connections in Linux OS.
  • Must have experience implementing Windows Active Directory User Authentication in Linux OS.
  • Must be proficient in reading and modifying User/Group permissions in Linux OS.
  • Must be proficient in reading, analyzing, and troubleshooting errors within Linux OS.
  • The selected individual will be responsible for monitoring infrastructure systems, applications, and processes, and for ensuring that all issues are identified, tracked and resolved in a timely manner.
  • She/he will provide support for all infrastructure systems and will respond to hardware and software incidents and work with senior system administrators, at times remotely from other locations.
  • Quickly responding to IT Help Desk calls and emails in a professional manner; ensuring issues are resolved and/or escalated to the appropriate teams; and following up with teams and users to ensure issues are satisfactorily remediated.
  • Identifying, troubleshooting, and correcting hardware and software issues including network connectivity.
  • Utilizing enterprise monitoring solutions to identify alarms that have been triggered against the various environments.
  • Proactively contacting customers when infrastructure processes are significantly delayed or may impact their ability to complete a business function on time.
  • Executing the process for managing information assurance vulnerability alerts (IAVAs) and system security scanning for equipment suites in accordance with the System Security Plans for these systems to rapidly and accurately identify and remediate IAVAs.
  • Initiating IAVA responses and system security scans, completing remediation, and extending IAVA patches and security updates on various IT and network systems.
  • Providing technical assistance to companion work groups in support of overlapping projects such as implementing IT enhancements and optimizing systems.
  • Maintaining good inter-departmental relations, communicating with users, and publishing status of system outages.
  • Participating in the creation and ongoing maintenance of documentation to ensure clear, concise and accurate information is readily available to assist with incident resolution.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • To be eligible for this position you must hold an active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph within the last 6 years.
  • Must have at least 5 years of direct, hands‑on experience providing assistance to users in an IT customer service capacity.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience working on an IT/software program that utilizes complex equipment/systems (ex. Network Switches, Routers, LANs, & cabling, Windows/Linux operating systems, VMware, etc.).
  • Must have experience installing, updating, and upgrading Linux Operating Systems (OS).
  • Must have experience with utilities used to manage Linux OS disk file systems.
  • Must have experience analyzing and implementing Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) requirements in Linux OS.
  • Must have experience with utilities used to create and configure network connections in Linux OS.
  • Must have experience implementing Windows Active Directory User Authentication in Linux OS.
  • Must be proficient in reading and modifying User/Group permissions in Linux OS.
  • Must be proficient in reading, analyzing, and troubleshooting errors within Linux OS.
  • Must have experience with IT system optimization, monitoring, and technical set‑up and troubleshooting.
  • Must have experience with Data Center design and configuration (e.g. rack and stack, power, placement, etc.).
  • Must have experience gathering data for and documenting technical processes.
  • Must have experience documenting IT issues and providing detailed and comprehensive status reports and follow‑ups.
  • Must have experience Analyzing and addressing IAVAs/CVEs (response and remediation, system security scans, extending IAVA patches and security updates on IT and network systems, etc).
  • Must be committed to adopting and adhering to best practices including compliance with maintenance windows and change control procedures.
  • Must possess strong analytic abilities and must be meticulous and careful in their work.
  • Must be an independent thinker capable of working independently as well as within a team.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency system administration, operations, and maintenance problems, on a limited as‑needed on‑call basis.
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time to local program locations (not overnight).
  • Additional travel to CONUS and OCONUS location(s) may also be required (overnight).

Desired Skills and Qualifications
  • BS degree in a technical field and at least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with security standards, software architectures, and Network security technologies (Multiple Domain, PKI, SSP, Vulnerability Assessment, etc.).
  • Experience working with Enterprise Domain Services.
  • Experience building and deploying Virtual Machines within an On‑Premises Data Center.
  • Experience with scripting and/or automation tools.
  • Experience reading, analyzing, and addressing security vulnerabilities discovered from automated scanning tools.
  • Experience supporting a large, complex software configuration management and development program.
  • Experience working in an Agile Development Environment or on an Agile Team.
Pay Rate

In compliance with Maryland’s Equal Pay for Equal Work law, the annual base salary range for this position is $125,000 - $240,000. This range represents the base pay for this role and is provided in accordance with Maryland’s requirements to disclose compensation in job postings. Please note that actual compensation may vary based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate’s qualifications, experience, education, skills, internal equity, and market conditions.

In addition to base salary, candidates hired into this position may be eligible for a hiring bonus of $10,000.00, subject to applicable contingencies and Navstar policy.
