Job summary

AT&T in McLean, Virginia is seeking a Network Tools Engineer to ensure monitoring, management, and diagnostics tools run efficiently to support network health and performance. The role requires office presence five days a week at the customer site and a strong background in monitoring ecosystems.

The candidate will configure, patch, and upgrade tools; monitor performance; manage alerts; maintain asset inventories; and document network configurations and policies.

Qualifications

• TSSCI with polygraph is required for this role.
• Minimum 12 years of applicable experience or equivalent combination of education and work history.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN and related network technologies.
• Hands-on network troubleshooting and performance optimization experience.
• Proficiency with OpenText NOM, Nagios, PRTG, Wireshark and related tools.
• Scripting and automation skills for tool integration and workflow automation.
• Ability to create and maintain comprehensive network documentation and diagrams.

Responsibilities

Job description

This position requires office presence of a minimum of 5 days per week and is only located at customer's site.

AT&T has an opening for a Network Tools Engineer to ensure that network monitoring, management, and diagnostic tools are functioning efficiently to support the overall health and performance of the network

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Configure, upgrade, and patch network monitoring and management tools
• Monitor network performance, analyze traffic patterns, and manage alerts for network anomalies
• Set up and manage alerts for network anomalies, ensuring a timely response
• Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all network hardware and software assets, including routers, switches, servers, firewalls, and licenses.
• Ensure that all changes to the network inventory are accurately recorded and updated in real-time.
• Work closely with network engineers, IT support teams, and other stakeholders to ensure network inventory needs are met.
• Continually monitor and fine-tune performance of Information Systems, conducting analyses of network usage, user complaints, traffic interruptions, hardware and software capabilities, and other relevant factors.
• Create, update and comply with SOPs and other documentation.

Required Clearance:

Required Qualifications:

• Candidate must have a total of 12 years of applicable experience. The experience can be a combination of degree and work history. This can be a High School degree and 12 years of work history OR an Associate's and 10 years, a Bachelors' and 8 years, a Masters and 6 years or a PhD and 4 years of work history.
• Strong understanding of network protocols, architecture, and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
• Hands-on experience with network troubleshooting and performance optimization.
• Proficiency with network monitoring and management tools such as OpenText NOM, Nagios, PRTG Network Monitor, Wireshark, etc.
• Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation and integration with network tools.
• Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
• Ability to create and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and policies.
• Relevant certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or CompTIA Network+

Desired Qualifications:

• Strongly preferred: experience with OpenText's Network Node Manager/NOM.
• Experience with ServiceNow ITOM
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
• Strong data analysis skills to generate actionable insights from network data.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with IT staff and stakeholders.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to team goals
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
