Job summary

Verizon is seeking an experienced network threat hunter to proactively identify threats within its network and monitor global threat activity affecting telecommunications infrastructure.

Lead analysis of traffic and events, present actionable insights, and develop advanced hunting techniques using incident data, intelligence, and analytics. Mentor peers, maintain partner relationships, and document findings for stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
• Four or more years of experience designing, testing, or operating networks with switching and routing experience, including OSI model, protocols, BGP data, and NetFlow.
• Four or more years of experience in cyber-related fields including cybersecurity, SIEM, investigations, and threat hunting.
• Master's degree or related certifications in CS, telecom, cybersecurity or systems engineering.

Responsibilities

• Proactively identify threats within the network.
• Monitor emerging global threat activity and trends affecting telecommunications infrastructure.
• Lead analysis of network traffic, events, and anomalous patterns, including missed threats.
• Present actionable insights to stakeholder organizations.

• Conduct time-sensitive cyber investigation analysis and malware analysis.
• Identify threat vectors using logs, captures, and analytics.
• Develop hypotheses and collaborate with teams to validate them.
• Maintain relationships with threat intelligence partners and communicate findings.
• Create documentation for threat hunting findings and handoffs.

Job description

• Proactively identify threats within Verizon's network


• Monitor emerging global threat activity and trends from state and non-state actors affecting telecommunications infrastructure


• Lead analysis of network traffic, events, and anomalous patterns, especially threats missed by automated tools or previously unknown threats


• Present actionable insights and artifacts to stakeholder organizations


• Create and evolve network threat hunting techniques using incident, breach, internal, external, and intelligence data


• Conduct time-sensitive cyber investigation analysis, including active network threat hunting and malware analysis


• Identify network threat vectors and vulnerabilities using threat research, log data, malicious code, packet captures, behavioral analytics, and other artifacts


• Develop threat hypotheses and predictions and collaborate with partner teams to validate them


• Maintain relationships with Verizon's network threat intelligence partners and communicate substantive findings


• Create and maintain documentation for threat hunting findings, processes, and handoffs


• Recommend tools, capabilities, and datasets supporting network threat hunting


• Identify network logging gaps and develop strategies to address them


• Propose automated alerts for new and previously unknown network threats


• Develop expertise on Verizon's network threat landscape and communicate it to stakeholders


• Serve as an expert on network threat hunting methodology


• Provide peer reviews and mentor team members


• Ensure organizational compliance with established administrative, audit, and KPI metrics

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience


• Four or more years of relevant work experience


• Four or more years of experience designing, testing, or operating networks with switching and routing experience, including OSI model, protocols, BGP data, and NetFlow


• Four or more years of experience in cyber-related fields, including cybersecurity, information technology, SIEM security tools, cybersecurity investigations, network security, computer security, intelligence analysis, information assurance, incident response, intrusion detection, malware analysis, information security management, penetration testing, vulnerability management, Red Team, Blue Team, or Purple Team


• Master's degree or certifications in Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering, Cyber Security, Systems Engineering, or related disciplines


• Proven track record managing complex processes, driving results, and adapting to change


• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills


• Software programming and scripting experience


• Data science methodologies applied to network data for advanced threat detection


• Ability to thrive in a high-intensity, production-driven, and dynamic environment


• Experience with data analytics, AI, or machine learning methodologies


• Experience with the Diamond Model of Intrusion Analysis, Lockheed Martin Cyber Kill Chain, and MITRE ATT&CK


• Experience in cybersecurity and networks


• At least two years of experience with incident response, security operations, malware analysis, or threat hunting


• At least three years of experience applying data science concepts and techniques to enable advanced threat detection


• Working knowledge of Splunk, Elastic Search, Grafana, and Netscout
