Job summary

Ascension Parish School Board is seeking a Network Technician to support networking and storage operations across schools and administrative sites. You will maintain Windows, Linux, and VMware servers, manage AD, and ensure secure, stable data and voice traffic on the APSB network.

The role requires 2+ years of network support experience, relevant certifications or an Associate’s Degree with emphasis on electronics/CS/telecom, and willingness to work irregular hours as needed.

Qualifications

  • At least two certifications in server, networking, virtualization, or security technologies may substitute education.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional network support experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Windows, Linux, and VMware servers at schools and admin sites, including hardware/software install, maintenance, repair and configuration.
  • Diagnose networking problems at school sites related to servers, switches, wireless networking, and cabling.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software problems and report issues to Network Administrator.
  • Recommend and implement enhancements to improve total system performance for labs and classrooms.

II.SUMMARY OF POSITION’S PURPOSE

Provides the networking and storage operations, support and design to maintain a stable and efficient network for theadministrative and instructional computers to carry and store data and voice traffic on the APSB network with thenecessary safeguards for students and staff

III.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION - Associate’s Degree, with at least eighteen semester hours in electronics,telecommunications, computer science, electrical engineering, or any combination of these fields. In lieu of anAssociate’s degree, at least two certifications in server, networking, virtualization, or security technologies may besubstituted. These may include but are not limited to CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Microsoftcertifications in administration or security, Cisco certifications, or VMware certifications. Additionally, in lieuofformal education and certifications, a minimum of 4 years experience in a network technician role with hands-onexperience with the technologies listed below may be substituted.

2. EXPERIENCE -At least two years of professional experience in network support are required for this position. This may include, but is not limited to troubleshooting network issues in a desktop support role.

3. SKILLS -Working knowledge of current server technologies such as Microsoft Active Directory, networktechnologies such as wired and wireless configurations, virtualization technologies such as VMware vSphere, or security technologies such as firewalls and intrusion prevention systems. Ability to communicate clearly in oral andwritten form with a diverse group of administrators, teachers, and staff is essential.

4. OTHER REQUIREMENTS -Must be flexible with respect to work schedules and willing to work on holidays,weekends, and after-hours to minimize downtime.

IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain the Windows, Linux, and VMware servers at schools and administrative sites including hardware andsoftware installation, maintenance, repair and configuration as directed by the Network Administrator.
  • Diagnose networking problems at school sites related to servers, switches, wireless networking, and networkcabling
  • Troubleshoot administrative and computer-related hardware and software problems and report problems andsolutions to the Network Administrator.
  • Recommend and implement enhancements and observe and evaluate total systemperformance for the lab andclassroom technologies, including instructional Local Area Networks.
  • Performs periodic maintenance procedures on all intranet-related computing equipment asdefined by the systemsdocumentation and the Network Administrator.
  • Determine the cause of recurring computer, network, and server malfunctions and correct. Identify opportunitiesand recommend methods to improve service, work processes, and network performance. Report conditionsassociated with server or connection failure to the Network Administrator.
  • Monitor and analyze the Intranet networks using established test procedures.
  • Backup servers, selected data, and configuration files for all Intranet servers.
  • Attend technical training as directed by the Network Administrator.
  • Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the technology department and the school system.
  • Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationshipsand to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured.
  • Performs other duties as required
