Job summary

Uniti is seeking a Network Technician to install, maintain, and repair fiber network systems across the United States. You will perform post-install tests, coordinate equipment, and conduct OTDR testing while ensuring safe operation of company vehicles and adherence to safety standards.

The role requires a technical background, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and flexibility for day/evening/weekend hours in a union environment.

Qualifications

Associate degree in a technical discipline or 4+ years related telephony experience.
Two-year technical degree in computers or electronics is a plus.
Requires ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work varied shifts.

Responsibilities

Install, maintain, and repair network systems, including voice and data.
Perform post-install tests for call processing and AMA testing.
Coordinate network equipment and fiber cross-connects.
Perform OTDR tests and interpret results.
Work both indoors and outdoors and follow safety rules.

This Position Follows the Union Bidding Process

What You’ll Do:

Perform routine installation, maintenance, and repair activities for network systems including voice, data, network, transport, and video equipment.
Complete post installation tests for call processing functionality and AMA testing.
Coordinate central office/Network equipment, card/SFP insertions, translations, fiber cross-connects and inside wiring activities.
Perform OTDR tests and understand results.
Fixed Wireless Installation & Maintenance.
Safely operate and maintain clean and organized company service vehicle.
Work in both inside and outside environments.
Complete necessary safety training and follow safety standards and regulations.
You will report to the Manager of Local Operations.

Do You Have?

Ability to understand CLR/DLR and Engineering job packs.
Ability to perform OTDR tests and understand results.
Basic technology and math skills - Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
Ability to distinguish colors in use of color-coded cable.
Ability to use equipment with maximum load capacity of 275lbs.
Ability to lift up to 50lbs, capable of working aloft.
Ability to successfully complete required safety training.
Ability to work assigned schedules and extended hours including day, evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
Ability to respond to after hour callouts.
High School Degree or GED equivalent.

Certifications or training directly related to the position.
Two-year technical degree in computers or electronics, or the equivalent in work experience.
Knowledge in the following areas:
DS1/DS3 installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
Analog Transport installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
SONET OC-3/12/48 installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
WDM/CWDM/DWDM installation, testing, and troubleshooting.

Minimum Requirements:

Associate degree in a technical discipline and 2-3 years technical/telephony experience; or 4+ years of directly related telephony experience, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related telephony experience. This is a safety sensitive position.
