We are seeking a skilled Network Technician to provide a combination of remote service desk and onsite/field support. This role will support a variety of business environments and requires strong hands-on experience with Microsoft technologies, networking, endpoint management, and remote support tools. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, interacting directly with clients, and traveling to local customer sites as needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide Tier 2 remote service desk support, including Microsoft 365, Azure/Entra ID, Active Directory, and Intune administrative changes.
- Provide onsite and field support for customer locations throughout the greater Austin area.
- Diagnose, configure, and troubleshoot networking equipment, including firewalls, switches, routers, and VPNs, across a mixed-vendor environment such as Fortinet, Cisco, Meraki, Ubiquiti, and other devices.
- Engage with RMM and backup/monitoring tools at a working level to identify issues and take appropriate action.
- Take client phone calls as needed, including assisting with call queue coverage when service coordinators are unavailable. All technicians participate in this responsibility on a rotating basis.
- Perform scheduled and proactive onsite visits, including recurring site walkthroughs, server room checks, and equipment drop-offs.
- Respond to reactive and emergency onsite needs, such as failed switches, access point outages, and vendor escalations.
- Escalate tickets when necessary, either laterally to another Tier 2 technician with specialized skills or upward to Tier 3.
- Maintain ownership of tickets when appropriate by applying guidance and notes from escalation teams to complete resolution rather than fully handing off the issue.
- Participate in occasional travel to the company's San Antonio office for team culture events, approximately quarterly plus additional occasions as needed.
- Be available for an on-call rotation as a standard Tier 2 expectation. The on-call rotation may be implemented at a later time.
Must-Haves
- Strong, hands-on experience administering Microsoft 365, Azure/Entra ID, Active Directory, and Intune.
- Genuine hands-on networking experience, including setting up, configuring, and troubleshooting firewalls, switches, routers, and VPNs. Lab-only experience is not sufficient.
- Networking experience comparable to a junior network administrator or engineer, with approximately 2+ years of hands-on experience.
- Familiarity with server and virtualization concepts. Experience with any hypervisor is acceptable.
- Working familiarity with RMM, remote monitoring, and backup tools such as ScreenConnect/ConnectWise Control, N-able, or similar platforms. Deep NOC-level administration is not required, but candidates should be comfortable navigating and using these tools.
- Excellent phone, email, and written communication skills, with the ability to provide a high level of service to demanding clients.
- Reliable personal vehicle, valid driver's license, and a good driving record.
- Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites throughout the greater Austin area, including locations up to roughly an hour away.
- A private, quiet home workspace suitable for remote client calls and confidential work.
- Ability to work independently and proactively in a remote environment while staying engaged and communicating effectively with a distributed team.
Nice-to-Haves
- Existing Microsoft, Azure, or networking certifications.
- Fortinet certifications or additional Fortinet experience.
- An outgoing, client-facing communication style that translates well to both onsite customer interactions and remote team collaboration.
- Prior experience in a field technician or customer-facing onsite IT role in addition to traditional help desk or service desk experience.
