Summary
The Network and System Engineer III is responsible for designing, planning, operating, securing, and managing the organization's network, servers, switches, network-connected devices, software systems, and data communications on a day-to-day basis. This position collaborates closely with external vendors and the IT Team to ensure the seamless operation of all network, applications, and IT systems. Some of the duties include installing, configuring, and upgrading network infrastructure and associated devices, diagnosing and troubleshooting both common and unusual network problems, performing preventive maintenance on the network and applications, and monitoring performance on both the local area network (LAN) and wide area network. This position is also responsible for the installation, operations, upgrade, performance, and monitoring of the network and application servers. Must possess excellent IT technical skills, customer service skills, work independently, support users and resolve their IT issues while representing the assigned service unit, follow directions, and demonstrate a passion for continuous improvement and learning.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Install, administer, support, and maintain server hardware, applications, peripherals, software, and operating systems.
- Configure, migrate, upgrade, and troubleshoot VMware, Microsoft Servers, Active Directory, Windows PCs, Firewalls, Switches, Software, Hardware, and more.
- Troubleshoots and solves the network connectivity problems, including monitoring the network and servers for problems, diagnosing problems, and taking the appropriate corrective measures to ensure an expedient resolution.
- Knowledge of IT systems, including servers, desktops, routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Provides support to users for the installation, coordination, and daily operation of IT services.
- Documents technical support calls and service request management tracking system.
- Provides analysis, relays results, and offers support to assure proper escalation during periods of substandard system performance or outages.
- Troubleshoot and advise senior personnel of network failures or degradation and assist in the modification or correction of the same.
- Assists with evaluating the functionality of new products.
- Assist in planning for the future strategy of networks, applications, and servers, and provide budgetary information as needed.
- Provides supporting documentation for diagnosis and corrective action and records service visits and equipment utilization.
- Monitors systems and performs scheduled software and hardware maintenance checks within the established frequencies to ensure efficient performance.
- Notifies appropriate groups of system degradation and takes action as outlined in relevant policies and procedures.
- Reviews job logs and monitors system backup, interface, and disk utilization.
- Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels
- Install desktops, portable computers, peripherals, and software products for networked, classified and unclassified, and standalone environments.
- Analyze and assess customer service requests and provide prompt technical solutions.
- Prepare progress/status reports and submit to the supervisor as required.
- Identify and document areas for process improvements.
- Provide technical support for customers assigned to remote locations as required.
- Perform software and hardware upgrades and installations involving multiple computers, printers, multi-printers, and peripherals.
- Conduct interviews, onboard, and provide training to new employees.
- Coach, mentor, motivate, and new team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs, must be physically able to walk, squat, bend, twist, lift, crawl under desks, reach out and above head, carry items, push and pull carts loaded with equipment.
