NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is seeking a seasoned IT professional to design, implement, and support LAN/WAN networks within the Finance Information Technology (FIT) Division in New York City.

You will build dashboards and maps, install Cisco switches, configure core routers, and troubleshoot complex network issues to ensure reliable access for DOF applications and users.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service.

DOF’s Finance Information Technology (FIT) Division designs, builds, and supports all facets of DOF’s computer systems, including hardware, software, applications, infrastructure, telephone, and data security. FIT delivers and administers tax-related payment programs for the City of New York by providing the information technology solutions needed to achieve its mission of collecting revenue while ensuring an efficient and improved customer experience. FIT is also responsible for the systems and websites which enable citywide payments, land records, property assessment, parking adjudications, customer service, and the Sheriff’s public safety work.

Responsibilities
  • Develop dashboards and network maps (as it relates to management network platforms) for a quick snapshot into the real-time connectivity of all DOF's Cisco switching and routing network devices.
  • Ensure that the DOF network is readily available to the users to perform their daily functions and provide quick resolution to user access issues.
  • Install various Cisco Catalyst 9400, 4500, 3800 series access switches (that connect to DOF's core Nexus 9500 series switches), in DOF's wire rooms to provide LAN/WAN access to all DOF applications to end users moving into a newly created LAN segment.
  • Configure Cisco network access switches (that connect to DOF's core Nexus 9500 Cisco series switches), to provide LAN/WAN access to all DOF applications to existing users on a LAN segment and move new users into a newly created LAN segment. Configure core routers & switches that connect to OTI’s CityNet.
  • Design and create new VLAN subnets on DOF's access and core Cisco switches, to provide LAN/WAN access to special units.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve all LAN/WAN DOF connectivity issues as they relate to IP, redundancy, EIGRP, RIP and RIPv2, OSPF, VLANs, cabling, printing, and security, and the OTI cloud.
  • Develop and implement advanced network management programs and services in support of DOF’s Wide Area Network.
  • Troubleshoot VoIP related issues.
  • May liaise with vendors for technical support.
  • Diagnose Network connectivity problems and communicate technical issues to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Perform related work of a highly complex, technical nature in LAN/WAN Network design.
  • Provide 4th level technical support to both DOF and OTI.
Additional Information

This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed between the City and the Collective Bargaining Unit representing employees serving in the civil service title.

CERTIFIED IT ADMINISTRATOR (LA - 13652

Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and two years of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) experience in local area network and/or wide area network planning, design, configuration, installation, implementation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management; or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) information technology experience of which at least 2 years must have been as described in “1” or
  • A satisfactory equivalent of education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2” above. Education may be substituted for experience on the basis that 30 undergraduate semester credits from an accredited college is equivalent to 6 months of experience. A master’s degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college may be substitute for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have at least one year of satisfactory (not classroom based) full-time information technology experience as described in “1” above.

Note: In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements: Incumbents may be required to update existing and/or obtain additional professional industry-standard certification(s) for current and future technical environments(s) in which they may be assigned to work, as determined by the employing agency.

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Cisco Catalyst Center, Cisco Identity Service Engine, Webex, and Aruba ClearPass. Knowledge of TCP/IP. Knowledge of Cisco Call manager and softphones. Knowledge of SIP protocol. Knowledge of packet sniffing technology. Knowledge of Cisco network routers & switches. Demonstrate leadership attributes such that the ability to lead, enable and motivate teams by providing advice and guidance. An understanding of strategic business objectives and the ability to drive results toward those objectives. Strong communication skills with a proven ability to understand key concepts and communicate effectively with technical staff, business stakeholders and senior management. Proven ability to communicate technical concepts to nontechnical people to enhance understanding and drive decisions that lead to positive outcomes. Proven ability to collaborate, build relationships and influence individuals at all levels in a matrix-management environment (as well as external vendors and service providers) to ensure that segregation and overlapping roles are identified and coordinated. Strong organizational skills, the ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple priorities with competing demands for resources. Strong analytical, data-processing, and problem-solving skills.
