Job summary

UMass Boston is seeking a Network Security Operations Engineer to oversee enterprise firewall services, network segmentation, VPN, NAC, and NSOC monitoring, ensuring the security and reliability of campus systems.

You will lead incident response with the Information Security Office, provide after-hours support, mentor student staff, and collaborate across Infrastructure, Network Services, and IT teams to continuously improve security operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity or related IT field with 5+ years in network/security operations.
• Experience administering enterprise firewall platforms and security controls in production.
• Proficiency in network segmentation, VPN, and NAC operations in enterprise settings.
• Experience using enterprise SIEM platforms for monitoring, investigation and response.
• Experience participating in enterprise incident response and diagnostic work.
• Ability to manage DNS/DHCP/IPAM infrastructure and DNS security solutions.
• Scripting skills (PowerShell or Python) to automate security operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead NSOC security incidents through monitoring, investigation, and response per incident protocols.
• Maintain firewall policies and configurations to protect resources while enabling operations.
• Maintain security of network segmentation, VPN, and NAC technologies with Network Services.
• Analyze network security events, coordinate responses, and document actions taken.
• Maintain operational docs for continuity, DR, audits, and knowledge transfer.
• Provide on-call support for critical incidents, upgrades, and emergency response.
