Job summary

University of Massachusetts Boston is seeking a Network Security Operations Engineer (NSOE) to manage the university's network security infrastructure. You will own firewall services, segmentation, VPN, and NAC, while monitoring security events in the NSOC and coordinating incident responses with Information Security Office and Network Services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, IT, Networking, or a related field with 5+ years in network/security operations.
• Experience administering enterprise firewall platforms in production.
• Experience with network segmentation, VPN, and NAC concepts and operations.
• Experience using SIEM for monitoring, investigation, and incident response.
• Experience participating in technical incident response in enterprise environments.
• Experience managing DNS, DHCP, and IPAM infrastructure.
• Ability to develop automation with PowerShell or Python.

Responsibilities

• Lead coordination of network security incidents in the NSOC, including monitoring, investigation, and response.
• Maintain secure firewall policies and configurations to protect university resources.
• Oversee network segmentation, VPN, and NAC tech in partnership with Network Services.
• Analyze security events, coordinate responses, and document actions for audits and DR.
• Develop and maintain operational documentation for continuity, outages, and knowledge transfer.
• Provide after-hours support for critical security events and upgrades.
• Mentor student employees and collaborate with ISO and Infrastructure teams.
