Job summary

By Light Professional IT Services LLC is seeking a Level 3 Lead Network Installation Technician to supervise a small team, oversee installation, test and turn-up of telecom equipment, and ensure quality through documentation.

Ideal candidates will have 6+ years in telecom infrastructure, hands-on experience with Juniper/Cisco/Ciena gear, ANSI/TIA standards familiarity, and the ability to travel 70% across CONUS/OCONUS. Active Secret clearance preferred.

Qualifications

  • Six or more years in installation, maintenance, repair or construction of telecommunications or related equipment.
  • Experience with network infrastructure build-out, cable/fiber installation, terminations and testing.
  • Hands-on experience with Juniper, Cisco and Ciena devices.
  • Familiarity with ANSI/TIA standards and potential DoD/DISA IT environments.
  • Ability to travel at least 70% to CONUS and OCONUS locations.
  • Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain/maintain.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, task, and organize a team of 1–2 Network Installation Technicians from deployment to close-out.
  • Lead infrastructure installation and de-installation (racks, cable management).
  • Perform wiring, testing, grounding and circuit activation.
  • Coordinate with Test/Acceptance for remote access to network devices.
  • Document configurations and prepare completion/status reports.
  • Train and mentor junior personnel; handle installations with minimal oversight.

Role Summary

Level 3 (Lead) Network Installation Technician employees are assigned responsibilities involving the supervision of others in the installation, test and turn‑up of telecommunication equipment and related components. This includes assignment and review of work, assessment of performance, ensuring completion of assigned projects or activities, and providing training or assistance as needed. Leads coordinate and communicate with team members to coordinate dispatches, assure quality control of installation efforts, and delegate responsibilities for completion of final customer deliverables, including documentation. No supervision is required to complete installation efforts.

Key Duties
  • Direct, task, and organize a team of 1 to 2 Network Installation Technicians from deployment to installation close‑out.
  • Infrastructure installation and de‑installation (racks, ironwork).
  • Cable management to include cable terminations, cleaning and testing.
  • Grounding.
  • Utilize baseline equipment connectivity diagrams to resolve site specific connectivity challenges.
  • Communicate with Test and Acceptance staff to ensure remote access to network devices.
  • Hardware/software installation of networking components including pre‑commissioning hardware with base configurations.
  • Circuit wiring, inspection, testing, and activation.
  • Network node decommissioning and de‑installation.
  • Manage completion reports and status reports providing detailed documentation of network configuration.
  • Equipment installations that include network routers, servers, patch panels, cryptographic material, switches, firewalls, and timing and synchronization.
  • Conduct Optical Testing.
  • Fiber optic characterization
    • Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR)
    • Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD)
    • Chromatic Dispersion (CD)
  • Review results, identify issues and provide recommended solutions.
  • Train and mentor more junior personnel in all the above.
  • Perform small to large sized installations with minimal oversight.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma required.
  • At least six years of experience in the installation, maintenance, repair or construction of various types of telecommunications or other electronic equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including completion of an accredited vocational or technical curriculum in telecommunications or a related discipline.
  • 6+ years of experience including network infrastructure build‑out, mounting telecommunication hardware, cable/fiber installation, cable/fiber terminations and cable/fiber testing.
  • 6+ years of experience installing network routers, servers, patch panels, cryptographic material, switches, firewalls, timing and synchronization and communications devices.
  • Prior hands‑on experience with Juniper/Cisco/Ciena 6500/Ciena RLS/Ciena Wave Server products.
  • Must be familiar with ANSI/TIA standards.
  • Preference for candidates that have worked in DOD/DISA IT network environment.
  • Strong preference for candidates with background with Juniper, Cisco, and Ciena devices.
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles and ability to supervise and direct the work of others.
  • Must have the ability to work independently or as a leader of a team.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (PowerPoint, Excel, VISIO, and Word) as necessary for reporting, redlining, and communicating with upper management.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher is desired but not required.
  • BICSI Certification.
  • OEM networking certifications (Specifically, Ciena 6500, RLS, Waveserver).
  • Active Secret clearance; or ability to obtain and maintain.
  • Candidates may be based anywhere in the US but must be open to at least 70% travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations as necessary.
  • Ability to type, communicate via telephone and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to raise or lower an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) more than 50 lbs.
