Job summary

Baton Rouge General is seeking a Network Engineer II to implement, maintain, and support our LAN/WAN infrastructure, ensuring security, scalability, and high availability for our healthcare network services.

Ideal candidates hold a Computer Technology degree or equivalent, CCNA/CCNP, and hands-on experience with enterprise switches, routers, firewalls, and ADCs, plus knowledge of wireless LAN and monitoring tools. Preference given to Louisiana-area applicants.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Technology or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Cisco certification required (CCNA, CCDA, CCNP, or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), QoS, VPNs, and network segmentation.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise-grade switches, routers, firewalls, and ADCs including Cisco, Fortinet, Aruba, and Citrix NetScaler.
  • Experience implementing and supporting enterprise wireless LAN environments.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and alerting tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, OpManager, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices.
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, configure, and maintain LAN/WAN network infrastructure.
  • Support and troubleshoot network connectivity and performance issues.
  • Coordinate with vendors for installation, maintenance, and upgrades of network equipment.
  • Perform project planning, solution design, cost analysis, and vendor comparisons.
  • Integrate network systems and implement ongoing modifications and enhancements.
  • Support IP, voice, and LAN/WAN services.
  • Maintain network security and reliability in a healthcare environment.
  • Monitor and maintain network performance using network monitoring tools.
  • Maintain knowledge of current networking technologies and healthcare IT standards.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and organizational safety requirements.

What We're Looking For:
  • The Network Engineer II is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and supporting the organization's network infrastructure. This role ensures continuity, security, scalability, and high availability of network services across the enterprise.

Responsible for maintaining and supporting local and wide-area networks (LAN/WAN). This role includes planning, evaluation, configuration, acquisition, design, installation, testing, maintenance, and coordination of network systems. The Network Engineer II supports day-to-day network operations, troubleshoots network issues, and coordinates with vendors for network-related equipment installations.

Essential job functions include, but are not limited to:
