Job summary

ByteDance infrastructure networking team is seeking a skilled network engineer to design, operate, and optimize the global backbone. You will work across continents to ensure high availability and performance for major apps like TikTok.

This role collaborates with architecture, SDN, and tools teams, requires travel up to 15-30%, and values hands-on WAN experience with Cisco/Arista/Juniper/Nokia gear.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in CS/Engineering/Math or related field.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, OSPF/IS-IS, BGP and MPLS technologies.
• Hands-on WAN design, build and operation with major vendor devices.
• Self-motivated with good communication and written skills.

About the Team

ByteDance infrastructure networking brings together innovative ideas and technologies from network architecture, software-defined networking (SDN), network virtualization, switch software and hardware co-design, and high-speed networking, to create hyperscale data-center networking solutions that power several of the most popular apps of the world such as TikTok which serve hundreds of millions of users around the globe.ByteDance infrastructure networking is responsible for planning, building and operating the global, intelligent network infrastructure to meet the requirements of high availability, scalability, and high-performance. Responsibilities

• Plan, design, implement, operate and optimize ByteDance's global backbone network across all major continents.
• Collaborate with network architecture, SDN, tools platform teams to improve network scalability, resource utilization, buildout efficiency and operational excellence.
• Collaborate with team members across multiple time zones to ensure continuous global network operations.
• Partner with the NOC team to support the day-to-day operations of the global backbone network infrastructure, including responding to network incidents alerts, mitigation, and service restoration during network failures.
• Travel may be required up to 15% - 30% of the time.

Minimum Qualification(s)

• Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Good understanding of network protocols including TCP/IP, OSPF/IS-IS, BGP and MPLS related technologies.
• Hands-on experience with designing, building and operating wide area network (WAN) using devices from mainstream vendors, such as Cisco, Arista, Juniper, H3C, Nokia, etc.
• Self-motivated, good communication and written skills.

Preferred Qualification(s)

• In-depth knowledge and skill of backbone traffic engineering technologies, such as RSVP-TE, SRTE-MPLS and SRv6 etc.
• In-depth knowledge of quality-of-service (QoS) technologies and implementations on wide area network.
• Good understanding of controller-based software-defined networking.
• Programming/scripting in Python or other languages.
