Citizens invites applicants to join the Enterprise Technology & Security Development Program as a Network Engineer. The year‑long rotation will build skills across enterprise networking, cloud networking, and security, with hands‑on experience in automation and observability.

Start date June 28, 2027, in one of the headquarters locations—Johnston, RI among others—and a starting pay of $80,000 per year. Participants will complete onboarding in five weeks and join the Early Career Development

Qualifications

• Video interview assessment must be completed within 4 days of link receipt.
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Network Engineering, Information Technology or other technology-related degree.
• Expected graduation date May 2027; minimum GPA 3.0.
• Demonstrated ability to operate in a team environment, strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Preferred: exposure to enterprise networking, cloud networking, cybersecurity, infrastructure engineering, or related tech disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Build experience in maintaining and supporting secure connectivity solutions across the enterprise.
• Develop expertise in identifying and documenting network performance trends and patterns.
• Collaborate with network engineers, architects, cybersecurity partners, cloud teams, infrastructure teams, application teams, vendors, and operations teams.
• Advance knowledge of network security technologies through review and optimization of firewalls, proxy gateways, and other components.
• Develop troubleshooting capabilities by investigating and resolving network availability issues.
• Gain hands-on experience with automation, orchestration, infrastructure-as-code, service catalog, and observability initiatives.

Network Engineer Rotation

In this year‑long program you will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to have a successful career. Citizens is a cloud‑first organization adopting automation in our tech stack. As a part of our Network Engineer Rotation, you will have three different rotations where you will contribute valuable insight and engineering expertise while working on a wide range of projects. As a member of the cloud network engineering team, you will be given the autonomy to exercise independent thought in a collaborative environment.

Through Hands‑on Experience In This Role, You Will

• Build experience in maintaining and supporting widely available, secure connectivity solutions across the enterprise.
• Develop expertise in identifying and documenting network performance trends and patterns while monitoring network diagnostics and health.
• Strengthen collaboration and technical delivery skills through partnering with network engineers, architects, cybersecurity partners, cloud teams, infrastructure teams, application teams, vendors, and operations teams to plan and execute work.
• Advance your knowledge of network security technologies through the review and optimization of firewalls, proxy gateways, and other network security components.
• Develop troubleshooting capabilities by investigating and resolving network availability and accessibility issues.
• Gain hands‑on experience with automation, orchestration, infrastructure‑as‑code, service catalog, and network observability initiatives that reduce manual effort and improve governance.

All ETSDP colleagues will spend their first 5 weeks together for onboarding, orientation, and our in‑house Tech Made Ready Academy.

Early Career Development Program (ECDP)

All ETSDP Colleagues Will Participate In The Early Career Development Program (ECDP) This Robust Program Is Designed To Give Our New Colleagues a Solid Foundation To Citizens. Through The ECDP, You’ll Experience

• 4-day in‑person event with bank‑wide early career development program colleagues
• Professional development workshops (including Presence & Presentation)
• Networking opportunities with senior leadership across all areas of Citizens
• Dedicated community service activities to include direct service or skills‑based volunteering to local organizations across our footprint.

Life after the program

Upon successful completion of the ETS Development Program, colleagues will be placed on a team where you will continue to develop your Network Engineering career.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications:

• Successfully complete a video interview assessment within 4 days of receiving the link. If not completed within the timeframe, your application will be automatically withdrawn from consideration.
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Network Engineering, Information Technology or other technology-related degree.
• Expected graduation date of May 2027
• Minimum GPA 3.0.
• Demonstrated ability to operate in a team environment, strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional or academic exposure to enterprise networking, cloud networking, cybersecurity, infrastructure engineering, or related technology disciplines.
• Experience and/or demonstrated interest in automation, scripting, APIs, infrastructure as code, data analysis, observability, service catalog workflows, or AI-enabled operations
• Demonstrated curiosity, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with a desire to learn new technologies and develop expertise across multiple networking, infrastructure, and security domains.

The position offers $80,000 per year as a starting rate.
