Network Engineer — District IT Infrastructure & Projects

Job summary

Newport News Public Schools is seeking a Network Engineer to support district-wide networking, administration, and ongoing projects across multiple sites. You will partner with supervisors of network engineering to maintain high-speed services and ensure reliable connectivity for students and staff.

The role requires deep LAN/WAN expertise, documentation skills, and the ability to coordinate with IT teams and site staff on network changes and deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or extensive equivalent experience in networking and IT.
• Experience with high-availability district networks and project planning.
• Strong documentation and cross-team communication skills.
• Certifications CCNP/CCNA and related vendor certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain district-wide network infrastructure and performance monitoring.
• Plan upgrades, installations, configurations, and backups.
• Coordinate projects across multiple sites and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with DBAs, systems admins, and users on changes and future needs.
• Develop and maintain network documentation and standards.
