Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Network Engineer in New Jersey to join the IT&S Network Systems team. The role focuses on daily operations, maintenance, and the integration of network assets across the enterprise.

You will install, configure, and maintain network infrastructure, define security standards, and coordinate with vendors to ensure service levels. Strong routing knowledge and Cisco/Aruba experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred; certification or equivalent may substitute for degree.
• 3+ years in information technology and services.
• 2+ years experience with Switch Infrastructure.
• Strong IP routing and networking protocol experience, including IPv6.
• Knowledge of enterprise-grade IP networking routers (e.g., Cisco, Aruba).
• Excellent communication skills; ability to explain technical issues clearly.
• Knowledge of routing protocols: OSPF, BGP, MPLS.
• Must be able to transport IT equipment.

Responsibilities

• Provides daily operations support and maintenance for network assets.
• Participate in applying network and IT assets to the enterprise.
• Assist in developing and implementing automated systems for BH Corporate and Affiliates.
• Install, configure, and maintain network infrastructure environments.
• Define standards, policies, procedures, and technologies for security and functionality.
• Schedule installations and upgrades in line with IS policies and SLAs.
• Participate in testing and implementing interfaces.
• Assist with reporting requirements (Performance, Capacity, Change).
• Monitor network infrastructure proactively and provide trend analysis.
• Provide training on network tools and processes as required.
• Participate in projects, architecture and support as SME.
• On-call availability 24x7 on rotating schedule.

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

A Typical Day

• Provides daily operations support and maintenance for BH network and related information technology assets
• Participate in the application of network and related IT technology assets into the enterprise
• Participate in the development and implementation of automated systems for BH Corporate and Affiliate entities
• Install, configure, and maintain network and related technology infrastructure environments
• Work with management to define the appropriate standards, policies, procedures and technologies to facilitate the management, accountability, functionality, and security of BH technology infrastructure assets and systems
• Schedule installations and upgrades and maintain them in accordance with established IS policies, procedures and SLAs
• Participate in the process of testing and implementing interfaces
• Participate in analysis required to define reporting requirements (e.g., Performance, Capacity, Change management),
• Proactively monitor system network and related infrastructure technology assets to provide stable, dependable technology asset services and provide ongoing trend analysis
• Provide customer and peer training on network and related technology infrastructure toolsets, processes and procedures as required
• Participate in projects, architecture and support (Technology Subject Matter Expert)
• Ability to be on call 24x7 on a rotating schedule is a requirement of this position

This Role Might Be For You If ...

• Implement and maintain existing LAN (L2/L3, spanning tree, VTP, VLANs, physical cabling), remote VPN software, network control protocols (QOS, PoE, NTP, DHCP), network management protocols (CDP,SNMP), and security protocols (SSH, HTTPS, AAA)
• Maximizes network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with vendors

• Provide support for all network and data communication issues including private and internet circuits, routing protocols, VPN connectivity, hardware, and 3rd party vendor connectivity
• Research networking issues and products as required and leverage critical thinking skills to evaluate all possible solutions while using appropriate judgment in applying effective resolutions
• Responsible for configuration, installation and maintenance and in-depth troubleshooting tasks and documenting any network issues
• Support during and after network cut-overs and change to the environment

To Be Considered

Required:

• Education Required: Bachelors degree preferred, certification or equivalent may be substituted for a BA/BS degree
• A minimum of three (3) years experience in information technology and services
• 2+ years of experience with Switch Infrastructure
• Strong IP routing and networking protocol experience, including IPv6 experience
• Knowledge of enterprise grade IP networking routers (e.g.Cisco, Aruba)
• Excellent oral and written communications skills combined with the ability to effectively communicate technical issues
• Knowledge of routing protocols: OSPF, BGP, MPLS
• Must be able to transport information technology related equipment

Certifications and Licenses Required:

• CCENT

Preferred:

• Additional Licensure Preferred: CCNA
• Experience in health care field helpful, but not required
