Job summary

MANTECH is seeking a motivated Network Engineer to design, maintain, and secure LAN, WAN, WLAN and VPN networks in McLean, VA. You will ensure optimal performance, troubleshoot tier-3 issues, and collaborate with IT teams while adapting to new technologies.

The ideal candidate has extensive network engineering experience, strong TCP/IP and security knowledge, and hands-on hardware experience with Cisco/Juniper/Fortinet systems. Travel to customer sites may be required.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of related network experience in customer environments.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and security protocols.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet or similar networking hardware.
  • Proficiency with network monitoring and diagnostic tools such as Wireshark, SolarWinds, Nagios.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and deploy LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN and related network infrastructure.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers; resolve tier-3 issues.
  • Monitor performance, plan capacity, and upgrade for uptime.
  • Configure security measures including firewalls, IDS/IPS, and access controls.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to integrate networks with servers, applications, cloud services, and maintain docs.
  • Local travel between customer buildings or alternate locations for special projects.
  • Work in 8-hour shifts scheduled between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

In this role, you will design, maintain, and secure LAN, WAN, WLAN, and VPN networks, ensure optimal performance, and collaborate with IT teams, while quickly adapting to new technologies and organizational needs.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Design, configure, and deploy LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, and related network infrastructure.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers) and resolve tier-3 network issues.
  • Monitor performance, conduct capacity planning, and implement upgrades for optimal uptime.
  • Configure and manage network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention, and access controls.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to integrate networks with servers, applications, cloud services, and maintain detailed documentation.
  • Local travel may be required between customer buildings or temporary assignment to an alternate location in support of special projects.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team during 8-hour shifts scheduled between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM
Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma with 8+ years of experience, an Associate’s Degree with 6+ years of experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree with 4+ years of experience.
  • Proven experience in network engineering, administration, or related roles in the customer environment.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and network security protocols.
  • Hands‑on experience with Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, or similar networking hardware.
  • Proficiency with network monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds, Nagios).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and attention-to-detail skills with excellent organization; able to quickly adapt to changing tasks and learn new skills on the job.
  • Effective communicator with solid documentation abilities, able to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience with ServiceNow ITSM & ITBM.
Clearance Requirements:
  • Must have an active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time. Constantly operate a computer, phone, and other office equipment for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to move/traverse within and between buildings and offices, position self to maintain equipment and cabling, including under the desks, while moving floor tiles, and in server closets, some of which may be confined spaces.
  • Must be able to move Audio/Visual or Computer equipment weighing 50+ pounds, some equipment may require team-lift or the use of carts.Ascends/descends a ladder, 10+ feet high while pulling cables and adjusting equipment.
