Job summary

Rockland Trust in Massachusetts is seeking a Network Engineer to install, configure, and maintain the organization’s LAN, WAN, and data communications infrastructure.

You will analyze routing/switching requirements, contribute to security specifications, and ensure high availability in a 24/7 environment with an on‑call rotation.

The role offers opportunities to work with IT Management on long‑term initiatives and to collaborate with external vendors while maintaining accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of hands-on LAN/WAN administration and troubleshooting.
• Strong routing and switching knowledge; SD-WAN experience a plus.
• Familiarity with IPsec, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, QoS, and TCP/IP.
• Experience with network monitoring, diagnostics, and diagramming tools.
• Certifications such as Fortinet NSE 4, Juniper, CCNA/CCNP, Network+ are a plus.

Rockland Trust is seeking a Network Engineer to install, configure, and maintain the organization’s LAN, WAN, and data communications infrastructure. The role includes analyzing switching and routing requirements, contributing to security specifications, and identifying solutions that optimize performance, reliability, and recovery procedures for critical enterprise network systems. This position ensures the highest level of service to internal customers. This role supports a 24/7 operational environment and requires participation in a rotational on ‑ call schedule.

Responsibilities

• Configure and install network devices and services (routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS).
• Maintain and optimize network resources, including performing system upgrades and patching network appliances.
• Monitor performance to ensure system availability, reliability, and adherence to service standards.
• Work within established configuration and change‑management policies to ensure proper approval, communication, and execution of network changes.
• Collaborate with the Information Security team to implement security tools, policies, and procedures.
• Resolve escalated Helpdesk tickets related to network issues.
• Maintain accurate network diagrams and documentation.
• Follow all Rockland Trust security procedures.
• Identify opportunities for improvement and recommend enhancements.
• Consult and strategize with IT Management on long‑term IT initiatives and department goals.
• Work with outside vendors and consultants on business continuity planning and technology evaluations.
• Maintain thorough documentation and collaborate with IT staff to ensure high uptime and operational efficiency.
• Troubleshoot and resolve router, server, telephony, and LAN/WAN issues.
• Plan, implement, and document installations of network equipment.
• Design, install, and support routing, switching, and security/VPN technologies across WAN/LAN environments.
• Support a 24/7 operational environment, including participation in a rotational on‑call schedule for after‑hours and weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of hands‑on LAN/WAN administration and troubleshooting experience.
• Strong understanding of routing and switching (Juniper experience a plus) and SD‑WAN technologies.
• Knowledge of networking protocols such as IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, 802.11, and QoS.
• Solid understanding of the OSI and TCP/IP models.
• Experience with monitoring, diagnostic, and network analytics tools.
• Experience with VLANs, trunking, and spanning tree protocol.
• Experience with ACLs, firewalls, VPNs, and related security technologies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Visio or similar diagramming tools.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and accurate documentation abilities.
• Certifications such as Fortinet NSE 4, Juniper, CCNA/CCNP, Network+, or Security+ are a plus.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
