Job summary

Jobtailor in Houston, TX seeks a network engineer with 3+ years of experience in enterprise networks and MSP environments. You will plan, implement, and support LAN/WAN and wireless solutions, provide technical leadership, and manage incidents for multiple clients.

Responsibilities include project support, documentation, vendor coordination, and after-hours availability. Strong knowledge of routing, VPNs, QoS, and network services is required, along with CCNA and ACIS 7720 certifications.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience with enterprise-grade network infrastructure in a corporate environment.
• 3+ years in a similar role with a Managed Services Provider.
• Strong understanding of LAN/WAN fundamentals and related infrastructure services (DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, Syslog).
• Knowledge of VPN technologies including L2L, Remote VPN, PPTP, and Client VPN.
• Experience with routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP) and WAN technologies (MetroE, VPLS, MPLS).
• Understanding of QoS (L2/L3 QoS, LLQ, policing, traffic shaping).
• Ability to document with Microsoft Visio and manage multiple projects.

Job description

• Plan, implement, and support LAN/WAN and wireless technologies
• Provide technical leadership in LAN/WAN networks and day-to-day network technical support for multiple clients
• Plan, implement, and support network solutions for existing and new clients
• Provide customer support to existing and potential customers
• Diagnose, triage, and resolve network-related incidents
• Assist with LAN/WAN projects and service incidents
• Communicate with vendors regarding network requirements and troubleshooting
• Document, track, and monitor network-related problems through resolution
• Perform proactive maintenance and maintain network infrastructure documentation
• Train and develop knowledge of new technologies, processes, and systems
• Maintain and update required technical certifications
• Work flexible hours for after-hours upgrades and customer-network emergencies

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience working with enterprise-grade network infrastructure in a corporate environment
• 3+ years of experience in a similar role with a Managed Services Provider
• Firm understanding of network fundamentals, LAN/WAN technologies, and network infrastructure services including DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, and Syslog
• Knowledge of VPN technologies including L2L, Remote VPN, PPTP, and Client VPN
• Knowledge of RADIUS and TACACS+
• Knowledge of sniffer traces and interpretation
• Working experience with routing protocols including OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and multicast
• Working experience with WAN technologies including MetroE, VPLS, PTP links, and MPLS
• Understanding of QoS technologies including L2 QoS, L3 QoS, LLQ, CBWFQ, policing, and traffic shaping
• Working knowledge of server, endpoint, and telephony technologies
• Project management capability for multitasking network projects and prioritizing tasks
• Ability to prepare documentation with Microsoft Visio
• Team collaboration, self-motivation, and passion for working toward common goals
• Strong aptitude for learning new technologies and applying them in customer environments
• Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Certification: ACIS 7720; CCNA
• Ability to work flexible hours for after-hours upgrades and customer-network emergencies
• Ability to perform physical duties including standing, walking, climbing, driving, and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally
