Job description

Amentum is seeking a dynamic Network Engineer to provide research, design, test, and evaluation support to the U.S. Pacific Command (US PACOM) Resources and Requirements Division (J8) at Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii. US PACOM maintains a Theater Campaign Plan (TCP) to shape the environment in the US PACOM Area of Operations; Concept Plans (CONPLANs); and Operational Plans (OPLANS) to ensure the Combatant Commander is postured to rapidly respond to these types of contingencies. To support these plans from a sensor-to-shooter data flow perspective, an Edge Theater Architecture (ETA) is in development to provide the foundation for a warfighting network infrastructure and services for the Joint Force and Allies and Partners.

Specific Duties Include
  • Conceptualize operational needs and solutions at a high level and then develop technical requirements and recommend solutions to drive improvement to existing design and solutions.
  • Oversee the strategic interface for network system configuration, strategically plan new configurations for network operations using knowledge of the characteristics of the systems being added to the network, and the specifications for network interfaces to ensure effective integration and optimal network performance.
  • Research, design, test, and evaluate new technologies and solutions. Maintain an organization-wide view of current and future operations and architecture to recommend solutions that integrate into the overall architectural vision and strategy.
  • Design and implement computer and information networks, such as local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), intranets, extranets, and other data communications networks including Software Defined Networks (SDN), Application Analysis, and Quality of Service.
  • Participate in and/or lead design and engineering projects for the customer’s experimental network involving the extension and application of advanced engineering and networking principles and concepts.
  • Perform network modeling, analysis, and planning.
  • Design network and computer security measures, and research and recommend network and data communications hardware and software.
  • Provide assessments regarding the technical characteristics of the proposals and alternatives considered to optimize network performance and data throughput in support of operational users.
  • Conduct advanced and state-of-the-art assignments such as network design optimization, technical experiments, specification of equipment configurations, technology assessment, technology insertion planning, capacity planning, and configuration management.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience designing network infrastructure for a large/complex network.
  • Experience in the following areas:
    • Designing and implementing MPLS/VPN networks
    • Designing and implementing SDN
    • Designing and implementing Data Centers utilizing Virtual Switching Systems (VSS) and Virtual Private Cloud (VPC)
  • Understanding of network technologies (ACI, SDN, SDWAN, routing, switching, firewalls, wireless, application load balancing, network visibility).
  • Understanding of network practices, and protocols (MPLS/SR, optical networking, LISP, VXLAN, IPv4, IPv6, 802.1X, segmentation, QoS, IPAM).
  • Experience with multi-vendor Firewalls, multi-vendor switches and routers.
  • Understanding and experience in cloud networking design for both hybrid and cloud native deployments.
  • Knowledge of the TCP IP protocol suite, IP subnets, masking, and routing protocols.
  • Knowledge of network bandwidth, requirements, routing through network devices or public network extensions.
  • Must have an active Top-Secret security clearance, with SCI eligibility later during employment.
  • At least 5 years of experience supporting the Department of War (DoW), including at least 3 years of experience in military operations.
  • Knowledge of the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
