Job summary

George Mason University’s Continuing and Professional Education is seeking a Network and Cloud Engineer to design, deploy, secure, and operate network and AWS-based infrastructure for unclassified IL2 workloads. The role serves as the primary technical integrator across Mason ITS, cybersecurity, carriers, facilities, and cloud vendors, ensuring reliable connectivity and compliant operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in cybersecurity, engineering, or related field.
• Experience supporting enterprise networks, cloud platforms, or hybrid infrastructure.
• Hands-on with network devices, firewalls, VPNs, and cloud resources.
• Experience documenting architectures, configurations, and procedures.
• U.S. citizenship required due to federal activities and eligibility for sponsor access.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, configure, and maintain site network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, VPNs, network segmentation, guest/partner access, and resilient internet connectivity.
• Architect and administer AWS cloud environments for unclassified IL2 workloads, including accounts, VPCs, IAM, EC2, S3, CloudWatch/CloudTrail, backup, and cost management.
• Operate security and reliability controls, including baselines, patch management, monitoring, incident response coordination, disaster recovery, and continuity planning.
• Coordinate technical work with Mason ITS and cybersecurity offices, carriers, facilities teams, cloud vendors, and sponsor-designated personnel; manage changes and escalations; and
• Maintain network diagrams, asset/config inventories, SOPs, access records, runbooks, service metrics, and provide guidance to interns and end users.
