Job summary

George Mason University seeks a Network and Cloud Engineer to design, deploy, secure, operate, and document network and AWS cloud infrastructure supporting PIA facilities. You will work with campus IT, cybersecurity teams, and external partners to ensure reliable connectivity and compliant workloads.

The role focuses on configuring routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, AWS environments, and identity and access controls, with emphasis on security, monitoring, and continuity planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or equivalent in a related field; strong technical foundation.
• Experience with enterprise networks and cloud platforms.
• Hands-on experience configuring network devices, firewalls, wireless networks, VPNs, and cloud resources.
• Ability to document architectures, configurations, procedures, and changes.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, and security best practices.
• Working knowledge of AWS technologies (VPC, IAM, EC2, S3, CloudWatch/CloudTrail).
• Ability to translate requirements into practical designs and plans.
• Strong communication and coordination with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain site network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
• Architect and administer AWS cloud environments for unclassified workloads.
• Operate security controls, patch management, monitoring, and incident response.
• Coordinate with Mason ITS, cybersecurity offices, and vendors on changes and escalations.
• Maintain diagrams, inventories, SOPs, access records, runbooks, and performance metrics; mentor interns.
