Job summary

Beaufort County Council is seeking an IT Manager to oversee the network infrastructure, including routing, switches, identity services, firewalls, VoIP Cisco phones, wireless security, and related systems.

The role requires supervising staff, coordinating workloads, and ensuring secure, reliable server and network operations. A Bachelor’s degree plus 4+ years’ experience, and CCNA/Network+ certifications are preferred, with a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or education and training equivalent to four years of college in a non-engineering field.
• 4+ to 8+ years of related experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff and conducts performance appraisals.
• Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and maintains schedules and standards.
• Maintains servers and network services including DNS, devices, security controls, and email groups.
• Configures, manages and secures servers; monitors data integrity and backups.
• Manages remote access and user provisioning; troubleshoots access issues.
• Plans and evaluates systems/servers; prepares project plans and reports.

Job description

The purpose of this position is to manage the network infrastructure of Beaufort County, which includes, routing and switching, identity service management, firewalls, VoIP Cisco Phones, wireless security and access, etc.

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
• Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
• Maintains servers and system network services: DNS, devices; server/desktop systems updates and security controls; user network accounts and security groups; maintenance of group policy for desktops, users and devices; make changes or add new policies as needed.
• Configures, creates, manages and secures servers; monitors integrity of users’ data; create/manage department folders, calendars, aliases and email groups; troubleshoot delivery/receipt of email messages; maintain spam and ATP rules.
• Monitors and manages servers in virtual center, maintain proper configurations, security controls and authorizations and backup; create and image servers as requested; monitor system resources to ensure servers run at optimum performance; adjust or recommend changes.
• Manages remote access; backup system, create and manage network, application and portal access for user access; troubleshoot user issues.
• Reviews, plans and evaluates systems/servers, recommends improvements, prepares project plans, provides documentation/reporting, assigns, leads and directs work of team members; tracks budgets, project spending and progress.
• Maintains communication links, cables and devices.
• Documents network designs and configurations.
• Performs related work as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Requires Bachelor’s degree or education and training equivalent to four years of college education in business, liberal arts, or any field other than engineering or the hard sciences.
• Over four years and up to and including eight years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

• Network + Certification @ CompTIA.
• Cisco CCNA.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
