Own the NetSuite platform for a multi-subsidiary building materials company running standard costing across 100,000 SKUs, RF-Smart, Shopify, retail EDI through Celigo, and Avalara — and lead the NetSuite integration of every business we acquire.
Location: Onsite — Flint, Michigan facility
Reports to: Vice President of Technology
ABOUT THE ROLE
BuildDirect runs its entire business — e-commerce, big-box retail marketplace, and Pro Center operations across Canada and the U.S. — on NetSuite OneWorld. We're growing through acquisition, and every acquired company adopts our stack: new subsidiaries, locations, item catalogs, and teams land in NetSuite on a recurring basis.
This is our lead NetSuite seat, reporting directly to the VP of Technology. There is no larger admin team behind this role — you own the system, with the autonomy that comes with that ownership. You should be equally comfortable interpreting the GL impact of a transaction and debugging a script deployment, and you'll work directly with Finance, Operations, Merchandising, Customer Service, and warehouse teams to solve problems at the root.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
Acquisition Integration — the defining responsibility of this role:
- Stand up new subsidiaries end to end: entities, locations, chart of accounts, custom segments, currencies, Avalara nexus/tax setup, consolidation
- Migrate legacy data at volume — customers, vendors, items, open orders, deposits, inventory, opening balances — fully reconciled to the source system
- Establish standard cost coverage before the first transaction posts, so nothing fulfills at zero cost
- Configure intercompany flows, deploy RF-Smart/Shopify/Celigo/EDI, train the acquired team, and build a repeatable onboarding playbook
Platform Administration:
- Own the support queue across order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, inventory, and financials — root cause, not record reprocessing
- Manage roles, permissions, forms, custom fields, segments, saved searches, and release/sandbox management
Integrations:
- Build and troubleshoot NetSuite–Shopify flows in Celigo integrator.io
- Own retail EDI (orders, acknowledgements, ASNs, invoicing, carrier compliance) and the Avalara AvaTax integration
- Implement monitoring so integration failures are caught internally — never by a customer
Development:
- SuiteFlow with judgment about its limits; SuiteQL beyond saved search capability; Advanced PDF/HTML (FreeMarker) templates
Costing & Warehouse:
- Own standard costing at scale: cost versions, revaluation, PPV, transfer pricing
- Build detective controls that catch zero-dollar COGS before month-end close
- Support cross-subsidiary fulfillment, intercompany transfers, RF-Smart warehouse processes, and purchasing workflows
WHAT YOU BRING
Required:
- 5+ years hands-on NetSuite in a OneWorld multi-subsidiary, multi-location environment
- Expert order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, and inventory costing — you know exactly how transactions post to the GL and how they fail
- Production SuiteScript 2.x — read unfamiliar code, isolate the defect, ship the fix
- Direct standard costing experience: cost versions, variances, revaluation at scale
- Experience building OneWorld structure (new subsidiaries, intercompany, consolidation), not just working within one
- Volume data migration with full reconciliation
- iPaaS experience (Celigo strongly preferred); Shopify + NetSuite together
- Strong SuiteFlow; expert saved searches; working SuiteQL
- Self-directed — ambiguous problem in, plan and solution out
- Authorized to work in the U.S. and able to work onsite in Flint full-time
Preferred:
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
- 30 days — You know our structure, costing setup, scripts, and Celigo flows, and clear tickets independently
- 90 days — You've permanently fixed at least one recurring failure point; departments come straight to you
- 6 months — You own the roadmap and your acquisition playbook has been tested
- 12 months — You've led an acquisition into NetSuite end to end
WHY THIS ROLE
Most NetSuite jobs are either babysitting a stable instance or consulting work you never see reach steady state. This is neither: one deep, growing instance you'll know better than anyone, an acquisition pipeline that keeps the work meaningful, and a direct line to the VP of Technology.
