Job summary

Skill, in partnership with Aquent Talent, is seeking a mid‑level Engineer to modernize a core internal workflow application on a temporary W‑2 contract in Austin, TX. Compensation is $45‑$50 per hour, with a Sep 3, 2026 start date.

You’ll work with C# and .NET Framework, enhance SQL objects, support ASP.NET web apps, and refine UI with Bootstrap, HTML, CSS and JavaScript. This engagement emphasizes stability, performance, and collaboration with product and tech teams; visa sponsorship is not

Qualifications

• Mid-level hands-on development with C# and .NET Framework (legacy enterprise apps).
• Strong database experience with stored procedures, joins, and performance-focused queries.
• Experience supporting ASP.NET apps and data access integration.
• Frontend tech: Bootstrap, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery.
• Ability to understand existing codebases quickly and deliver pragmatic improvements within a contract timeline.
• Experience with Visual Studio, GitHub, Jira, Confluence, and SDLC practices.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-team communication.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and optimize database objects for the workflow queue app.
• Support modernization of a web application, including data access and business logic updates.
• Assist UI enhancements to improve usability and maintainability of the internal workflow queue.
• Analyze existing code and database logic to identify gaps and defects.
• Collaborate with business partners and tech teams to clarify requirements and support milestones.
• Participate in testing, defect resolution, code reviews, and deployment readiness.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Engineer to play a pivotal role in the modernization of a critical internal workflow application. In this exciting contract engagement, you will directly impact the stability, functionality, and user experience of a core system, contributing significantly to the team's delivery timelines and the overall operational success of the organization. Your expertise will be instrumental in evolving a legacy system into a more robust and efficient platform.

What You'll Do

• Develop, enhance, and maintain database objects, including stored procedures, tables, views, queries, and data logic supporting the workflow queue application.
• Support the modernization of a web application, including targeted updates to application logic, data access, and user-facing workflow functionality.
• Assist with user interface enhancements to improve usability, consistency, and maintainability of the internal workflow queue.
• Analyze existing application and database logic to identify gaps, troubleshoot defects, and recommend practical improvements that support modernization goals.
• Collaborate with business partners, product owners, and technical team members to clarify requirements, validate workflow behavior, and support delivery milestones.
• Participate in testing, defect resolution, code reviews, deployment readiness, and documentation updates as needed throughout the engagement.
• Communicate progress, risks, dependencies, and technical considerations clearly to the project team and stakeholders.

What You'll Bring

• Mid-level hands-on development experience with C# and .NET Framework, preferably .NET Framework 4.6 or similar legacy enterprise web applications.
• Strong database experience, including writing and troubleshooting stored procedures, joins, queries, data updates, and performance-minded database logic.
• Experience supporting ASP.NET web applications, including application troubleshooting, data access logic, and integration with back ends.
• Working knowledge of Bootstrap, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery for maintaining and enhancing web application interfaces.
• Ability to understand existing code and database structures quickly, troubleshoot issues, and deliver pragmatic improvements within a defined contract timeline.
• Experience with Visual Studio, GitHub or similar source control, Jira, Confluence, and standard software development lifecycle practices.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across business and technical teams.

Bonus Points

• Experience with internal workflow, case management, queue management, or operational processing applications.
