Job summary

Charles Schwab is hiring an early-career software engineer in Austin to build, test, and support scalable web applications and services. You will work with experienced engineers across front-end, back-end, and cloud technologies, applying modern engineering practices and SDLC discipline.

You will gain practical experience in Angular, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS/SCSS, C#, ASP.NET, and REST/SOAP APIs while collaborating across teams to deliver value to RIAs and clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field; or equivalent practical experience.
• 1+ years of software development experience or internship in enterprise/web apps.
• Experience building web apps with Angular, HTML5, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript, responsive design.
• Back-end apps with C#, ASP.NET, MVC, REST/SOAP APIs.
• Relational databases (SQL Server/Oracle) and NoSQL (MongoDB).
• Understanding SDLC, design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
• Knowledge of web app architecture, security, debugging, and performance optimization.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, and source control.
• Strong analytical thinking and collaboration skills.

Within Advisor Services and Wealth Technology (AWAT), you will contribute to the development of applications that support Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs) and the clients they serve.

In this early-career software engineering role, you will collaborate with experienced engineers to build, enhance, test, and support scalable web applications and services. You will apply problem-solving skills, learn modern engineering practices, and contribute to solutions that improve advisor experiences while supporting business objectives. Success in this role requires adaptability, collaboration, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous learning as you grow your technical expertise across front-end, back-end, and cloud-based technologies within a highly collaborative technology organization.

What you have

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
• 1+ years of software development experience, internship experience, or equivalent hands-on experience developing enterprise or web-based applications.
• Experience developing web applications using Angular, HTML5, CSS/SCSS, JavaScript, and responsive web development concepts.
• Experience developing back-end applications using C#, ASP.NET, MVC frameworks, and RESTful and/or SOAP APIs.
• Foundational knowledge of relational databases such as SQL Server or Oracle.
• Foundational knowledge of NoSQL technologies, including MongoDB or similar document databases.
• Understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) practices, including design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
• Knowledge of web application architecture, application security, debugging, and performance optimization concepts.
• Understanding of CI/CD principles, automated testing practices, and source control management.
• Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience developing cloud-native applications.
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as Pivotal Cloud Foundry, AWS, Azure, or private cloud environments.
• Experience working in Agile development environments, including Scrum, BDD, and TDD practices.
• Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and quality engineering practices.
• Experience building secure, scalable, and resilient applications within regulated industries.
• Knowledge of modern software engineering best practices, including code review and continuous improvement methodologies.
