Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation, Houston District APD, is seeking an Environmental Project Planner to oversee NEPA analyses for transportation projects in the Houston area. The role collaborates with engineers, agencies, and communities to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Office-based with occasional fieldwork; strong communication and scheduling skills are essential. Candidates may have a background in NEPA, environmental planning, or related fields.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in any discipline. Related experience in environmental, planning, project management or other related fields may be substituted for education.
• No experience required.
• Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
• Preference for candidates with NEPA experience and knowledge of environmental laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates environmental planning activities for transportation projects.
• Serves as liaison with state and federal resource agencies, environmental groups, consultants, and internal sponsors.
• Prepares and reviews schedules, scopes of work, and deliverables for environmental studies.
• Reviews and monitors consultant work related to environmental studies.
• Schedules public involvement activities for related environmental projects.
• Conducts field surveys and project investigations as needed.
