Job summary

The University of Virginia Health System seeks a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Newborn Medicine team in Charlottesville. The role covers inpatient newborn care from delivery through discharge with 12-hour shifts and weekend requirements, and no night shifts.

Collaborate with physicians and a multidisciplinary team in an academic medical center, with mentorship and a strong orientation program to support successful integration and high-quality family-centered care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited graduate program for Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants with a master’s degree.
• NRP certification required; BLS and position-specific credentials must be maintained.
• Experience in neonatal/newborn or pediatric care preferred; ability to attend deliveries and provide resuscitation if needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive newborn assessments from birth through discharge.
• Provide inpatient management of newborns in the NICU pathway.
• Attend deliveries and perform neonatal resuscitation when indicated.
• Develop and implement care plans with physicians and multidisciplinary teams.
• Educate families on newborn care, safety, and discharge planning.
