Job summary

Precision Castparts seeks an experienced NDT inspector/auditor to perform actual inspector audits, NADCAP and certification audits, and address customer complaints related to NDT issues. The role includes training new inspectors and supporting cost reduction initiatives.

Key responsibilities include conducting outgoing quality audits for multiple inspection types, engineering evaluations, and root-cause analysis. Excellent communication and independent work are essential.

Qualifications

  • Must be certified in the primarily NDT discipline required for the role (x-ray, digital x-ray, FPI, Visual Inspection, and Dimensional Inspection). In certain cases, the incumbent may be required to hold multiple certifications.
  • Preferably certified in multiple NDT disciplines, including x-ray, digital x-ray, FPI, Visual Inspection, and Dimensional Inspection.
  • Must have taken and passed 8 hours of auditor training and perform 2 practice audits with a certified auditor/trainer.
  • Must have at least 6-7 years of actual inspection time with very few escapes or quality issues.
  • Considerable knowledge of and familiarity with NDT principles as well as a working knowledge of NDT methods other than those not currently used at the facility.
  • Excellent and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to apply and adapt a wide variety of technical procedures under general direction and to complete work independently.
  • Ability to develop x-ray, visual, dimensional and FPI work instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform outgoing quality audits for Visual Inspection, Dimensional Inspection, Film X-Ray inspection, Digital X-Ray inspection and Penetrant inspection.
  • Perform Engineering evaluations to provide detailed information on casting quality for internal and external Customers' use.
  • Perform at least one annual assessment audit of every shooter, reader, FPI inspector and every FPI processer, magnetic particle inspector.
  • Perform or assist in the investigation of all customer escapes and concerns within 48 hours of notification from the quality department.
  • Write reports for Quality on the actual results of escape instigations.
  • Perform annual eye exams.
  • Perform annual or semiannual process audits for FPI, x-ray and digital x-ray, visual, dimensional, magnetic particle.
  • Assist with NADCAP audit.
  • Assist NDT trainers when they are out on vacation or other functions.
  • Perform stamp audits.
  • Must interface with customers in a professional manner.
  • Identify potential areas of cost reductions.
  • Be able to assist manufacturing during end of quarter requirements for throughput.
  • Write and assist at administering root cause and corrective action forms.
  • Perform root cause and corrective actions on breakdowns in process requirements
  • Performing grain etch evaluation and reporting.
