Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in San Diego, CA is seeking an inspection-focused professional to verify production work and materials against specifications.

You will interpret Ultrasonic/Eddy current, radiographic, and nondestructive testing results to ensure conformance and certify welding equipment and personnel. The role covers surface, dimensional, and quality checks, with responsibilities spanning setup, testing, record-keeping, and collaboration with Engineering to develop standards and procedures.

Qualifications

• Must possess demonstrated computer skills.
• Ability to read drawings and schematics.
• Available to work on 1st or 2nd Shift.
• BAAN experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and interpret inspection procedures, sequence setup, and mathematical computation from engineering prints and work orders.
• Approve acceptable items and reject unacceptable items; maintain records.
• Perform visual inspections of electrical/electronic components, subassemblies, and assemblies.
• Set up and operate testing equipment and fixtures as required.
• Set up, calibrate, and operate Ultrasonic/Eddy current equipment and interpret findings.
• Assist Engineering in developing operating standards and calibration procedures.
• Set up and operate radiographic equipment and interpret findings.
• Observe welding techniques and certify equipment and personnel as qualified.
• Perform inspection stamping control tasks and maintain related records.
