We’re looking for a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – NDT/NDE Specialist to join our team in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Job Overview
Lead field teams in inspecting and testing steel structures, ensuring critical structural integrity for the community. Conduct ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and other non‑destructive testing on welds, supervise field staff, and produce comprehensive reports.
Responsibilities
- Field Operations: Perform NDT procedures, including ultrasonic testing (UT) and magnetic particle testing (MT), to meet quality standards.
- Assignment Management: Organize and manage testing tasks across multiple projects.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and calibrate testing equipment; oversee field and lab inventories and maintain calibration documentation.
- Comprehensive Reporting: Prepare thorough reports presenting inspection results.
- Fieldwork: Safely climb steel structures up to 200+ feet with fall protection; work outdoors in varying weather.
- Work hours: May exceed 50 hours during high demand; occasional evening, overnight, weekend shifts.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2 years of NDT/NDE metals testing experience or an associate degree in a related field.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
- ASNT Level II per ASTN‑SNT‑1A in at least one method.
- Additional certifications a plus (ICC Building Inspection, Structural Steel Inspection, Level II UT/PT/MT).
- Strong work ethic, proactive safety focus, clear communication, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Climb heights over 200 feet.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Routine lifting and carrying of 40–50 lbs.
- Work outside normal hours, and travel out‑of‑town or overnight as needed.
