Job summary

SMS group is seeking a highly skilled NDT Inspector / CWI to perform welding inspections, NDT, and QA at customer sites and fabrication facilities. This role requires extensive travel (regional with overnight) and includes a company vehicle.

You will ensure compliance with codes, standards, and customer requirements while representing the company in the field. The ideal candidate has 3+ years in welding inspection/NDT, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to travel 75–90% of the time.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of welding inspection and NDT experience.
• AWS CWI certification preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with clean record.
• Ability to travel 75–90% with overnight travel.

Responsibilities

• Perform NDT inspections (VT, MT, PT, UT, RT) per applicable codes and customer specs.
• Conduct welding inspections in accordance with AWS, ASME, API, and customer specs.
• Travel to customer sites, fabrication shops, and field locations for inspections and QA activities.
• Safely operate a company-provided vehicle while traveling to job sites.
• Interpret WPS, PQR, and WPQ records.
• Review fabrication drawings, ITPs, and quality documentation.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain records.
• Identify weld and dimensional errors and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with safety policies, customer requirements, and quality management systems.
• Coordinate with production, engineering, quality, customers, and third-party inspectors.
• Participate in customer audits and third-party inspection.

Summary

Ready to take your inspection expertise on the road? We are seeking a highly skilled NDT Inspector / Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to perform welding inspections, non‑destructive testing (NDT), and quality assurance activities at customer sites and fabrication facilities. This position requires extensive travel (primarily regional with some overnight travel) and includes the use of a company‑provided vehicle. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, customer specifications, and company quality requirements while representing the company professionally in the field.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspections using methods such as: Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Radiographic Testing (RT) (preferred)
• Conduct welding inspections in accordance with AWS, ASME, API, and customer specifications.
• Travel to customer locations, fabrication shops, and field sites to perform inspections and quality assurance activities.
• Safely operate a company‑provided vehicle while traveling to assigned job sites.
• Interpret Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) records.
• Review fabrication drawings, Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), and quality documentation.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate inspection records.
• Identify weld and dimensional errors and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with company safety policies, customer requirements, and quality management systems.
• Coordinate with production, engineering, quality personnel, customers, and third‑party inspectors.
• Participate in customer audits and third-party inspection

Required Qualifications

• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification (Preferred).
• Level II certification in one or more NDT methods (VT, PT, MT, UT, RT) in accordance with ASNT SNT‑TC‑1A or NAS‑410.
• High school diploma or technical degree in Welding, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in welding inspection and NDT.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability and willingness to travel 75–90% of the time, including overnight travel as required

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ASME Section V, VIII, IX, API 1104, API 650, or AWS D1.1.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems.
• Experience in heavy fabrication, structural steel, pressure vessels, or pipeline construction.
• Strong understanding of welding processes including GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, and SAW.
