Job summary

SMS group is seeking a skilled NDT Inspector / Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to perform welding inspections, NDT, and QA at customer sites and fabrication facilities across the region. The role requires extensive travel and the use of a company-provided vehicle.

The ideal candidate will hold AWS CWI (preferred), Level II NDT certifications, and at least 3 years of welding inspection experience, with the ability to read drawings and interpret WPS/PQR/WPQ documents.

Qualifications

• Current AWS CWI certification (Preferred).
• Level II certification in one or more NDT methods (VT, PT, MT, UT, RT) per ASNT SNT-TC-1A or NAS-410.
• Minimum of 3 years of welding inspection and NDT experience.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Willingness to travel 75–90% with overnight travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Perform NDT inspections (VT, MT, PT, UT, RT) per applicable standards.
• Conduct welding inspections per AWS, ASME, API, and customer specs.
• Travel to customer sites and fabrication shops for inspections and QA.
• Safely operate a company vehicle during travel to sites.
• Interpret WPS, PQR, and WPQ records.
• Review fabrication drawings, ITPs, and quality documentation.
• Prepare inspection reports and maintain records.
• Identify weld and dimensional issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with safety policies, customer requirements, and QMS.
• Coordinate with production, engineering, quality, customers, and inspectors.
• Participate in customer audits and third-party inspections.

We are seeking a highly skilled NDT Inspector / Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to perform welding inspections, non-destructive testing (NDT), and quality assurance activities at customer sites and fabrication facilities. This position requires extensive travel (primarily regional with some overnight travel) and includes the use of a company-provided vehicle. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, customer specifications, and company quality requirements while representing the company professionally in the field.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspections using methods such as:
  • Visual Testing (VT)
  • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
  • Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)
  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
  • Radiographic Testing (RT) (preferred)
• Conduct welding inspections in accordance with AWS, ASME, API, and customer specifications.
• Travel to customer locations, fabrication shops, and field sites to perform inspections and quality assurance activities.
• Safely operate a company-provided vehicle while traveling to assigned job sites.
• Interpret Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) records.
• Review fabrication drawings, Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), and quality documentation.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate inspection records.
• Identify weld and dimensional errors and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with company safety policies, customer requirements, and quality management systems.
• Coordinate with production, engineering, quality personnel, customers, and third-party inspectors.
• Participate in customer audits and third-party inspection

Required Qualifications

• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification (Preferred).
• Level II certification in one or more NDT methods (VT, PT, MT, UT, RT) in accordance with ASNT SNT-TC-1A or NAS-410.
• High school diploma or technical degree in Welding, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in welding inspection and NDT.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability and willingness to travel 75–90% of the time, including overnight travel as required

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ASME Section V, VIII, IX, API 1104, API 650, or AWS D1.1.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems.
• Experience in heavy fabrication, structural steel, pressure vessels, or pipeline construction.
• Strong understanding of welding processes including GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, and SAW.

• Strong knowledge of welding codes, specifications, and NDT standards.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and welding symbols.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and inspection reporting software.
• Ability to work independently in both field and shop environments.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage travel schedules and multiple inspection assignments
