Job summary

Piping Technology & Products (PT&P) in Houston, TX seeks an NDT Level 2 Technician – Digital Radiography to perform DR inspections of manufactured components. You will set up exposures, verify image quality, evaluate indications, and maintain complete inspection records in accordance with code criteria.

Responsibilities include performing MT, VT and PT as qualified, following ALARA principles, and communicating findings to Quality Control and Engineering while ensuring traceable digital images

Position Summary

The NDT Level 2 Technician – Digital Radiography performs digital radiographic inspection of manufactured components using industrial X-ray equipment and digital detector arrays (DDAs). This role sets up exposures, verifies image quality, evaluates indications against applicable acceptance criteria, and maintains complete inspection records. The technician also performs magnetic particle testing (MT), visual testing (VT), and liquid penetrant testing (PT) as assigned and within current certifications.

What You Will Do

• Set up and safely operate directional or panoramic industrial X-ray tubes and DDA or flat-panel detector systems in accordance with approved procedures.
• Select and adjust exposure parameters, including kV, mA and exposure time, and position the source, component and detector to achieve the required image quality.
• Place and evaluate appropriate image quality indicators (IQIs) or penetrameters; verify image quality before interpreting results.
• Acquire, process and evaluate digital radiographs using image-acquisition and enhancement software, including window/level and other permitted image-quality controls.
• Interpret relevant indications and document acceptance or rejection against the applicable drawing, procedure, customer specification and code criteria.
• Perform required equipment checks and support calibration and maintenance activities for X-ray and detector systems in accordance with approved procedures.
• Prepare accurate inspection reports and maintain traceable digital images and records under company and customer data-storage requirements.
• Follow radiation safety procedures and ALARA principles; maintain required controls, monitoring and documentation during radiographic work.
• Perform PT, MT and VT when assigned and when qualified and certified for the work.
• Communicate inspection findings and technical issues to Quality Control, Engineering and Production; follow company safety policies and perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Certifications and Qualifications

• Documented NDT Level 2 certification in Radiographic Testing (RT), with a Digital Radiography (DR) or Digital Detector Array (DDA) endorsement or documented submethod qualification.
• Documented certifications in MT, VT and PT appropriate to the inspections assigned.
• Certification meeting the applicable requirements of at least one of the following: SNT-TC-1A, ANSI/ASNT CP-189, NAS 410 or EN 4179.
• Valid Texas Industrial Radiographer card with 3T status.
• Ability to pass the required annual near-vision examination (Jaeger 1 or equivalent, corrected or uncorrected) and color-contrast or grayscale differentiation testing.

Experience and Technical Skills

• At least two years of hands‑on experience setting up, adjusting and safely operating directional or panoramic industrial X-ray tubes.
• Experience handling, positioning and maintaining DDAs or flat‑panel detectors.
• Proficiency with NDT image‑acquisition and enhancement software, including window/level controls and evaluation of signal-to-noise ratio and spatial resolution.
• Ability to interpret relevant flaws and acceptance criteria under applicable ASTM, ASME, AWS or API requirements; familiarity with ASTM E2698 and E2736 is preferred where applicable to the work.
• Understanding of source-to-detector distance (SDD), object-to-detector distance (ODD) and geometric unsharpness (Ug) in exposure setup.
• Strong documentation, communication and attention‑to‑detail skills, with the ability to work safely with shop and quality teams.
