Job summary

Ilocatum is seeking a Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) Engineer in Illinois to support and advance inspection technologies across multiple manufacturing operations.

Ideal for an early-career engineer, the role collaborates with Quality, Metallurgy, Process Engineering, Production, and certified NDT personnel to improve inspection processes, troubleshoot challenges, and drive continuous improvement. Up to 15% travel is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• 0–5 years engineering experience in manufacturing or related internships.
• Knowledge of UT, MT, and PT nondestructive testing.
• Ability to qualify under ASNT SNT-TC-1A or ISO 9712.
• Experience reading drawings and specifications.
• CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred).
• Strong analytical, communication, and technical writing skills.
• Proficient with MS Office and quality systems.
• Able to work in both offices and manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities

• Support and improve NDT processes including UT, MT, PT, and RT.
• Develop and maintain NDT procedures and inspection standards.
• Troubleshoot issues using 8D, root cause analysis, fishbone, and Lean.
• Evaluate new inspection technologies such as Phased Array UT and robotics.
• Design solutions to improve safety and ergonomics in NDT operations.
• Audit readiness, calibration, and documentation support.
• Review drawings and acceptance criteria to select methods.
• Analyze inspection data and nonconformance trends.
• Provide technical support to Quality, Production, Engineering, Metallurgy, and NDT.
• Assist training and mentoring NDT technicians; support internal/customer audits.
• Participate in Lean, Six Sigma, 6S, and continuous improvement.
