Job summary

Astrion is seeking an NDE Associate Engineer III to join the team at Kennedy Space Center, Florida, supporting the LASSO II contract. This role is primarily a 2nd shift position, with initial training on 1st shift to ensure proficiency with procedures, equipment, and safety requirements.

The candidate will train NDE personnel to ASNT TC‑1A/CP‑189/AIA NAS 410, maintain procedures, and contribute to the radiation safety program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or scientific field with 14–16 years of relevant experience.
  • Must hold ASNT Level III Certification in at least 3 NDE methods (ET/UT/LT preferred).
  • US citizenship and ability to obtain a National Agency Check with Inquiries clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Training and certifying NDE Technician personnel to ASNT‑TC‑1A, ANSI/ASNT CP‑189, and AIA/NAS 410 requirements.
  • Preparation and validation of Standard Operating Procedures for NDE per industry, NASA, and customer standards.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining the industrial radiographer radiation safety program in accordance with Florida regulations and KSC authorization.
  • Develop maintenance instructions for NDE equipment.
  • Review and approve NDE inspection reports.
  • Conduct pre‑inspection walk‑downs with the customer to define NDE requirements and acceptance criteria.

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for an NDE Associate Engineer III to join our team at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida supporting the Laboratory Support Services and Operations (LASSO) II contract. Astrion has worked extensively with NASA, KSC resident contractors, the U.S. Space Force and with Commercial Aerospace companies where we operate and maintain a diverse set of laboratories, developmental shops and test facilities that are tailored to the needs of our clients.

This position is being hired to support 2nd shift operations. However, the individuals will be required to train on 1st shift for an initial period to ensure full proficiency with operational procedures, equipment, and safety requirements. Additionally, based on mission needs and workload demands, the employee may be asked to provide continued or periodic support to 1st shift on a long‑term basis.

Required Qualifications / Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or scientific field, plus 14 years of job-related experience, or 16 years experience. The candidate should possess a current ASNT Level III Certification in at least 3 NDE methods, preferably with or certifiable to ET/UT and LT. Personnel with RT Level III’s should also possess current X and gamma IRRSP certification.
  • Position will require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. US citizenship is required for unescorted access to assigned work area(s). Must be able to successfully pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries.
  • Experience with MS Office products.
  • Excellent communications and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for training and certifying NDE Technician personnel to meet the requirements of ASNT‑TC‑1A, ANSI/ASNT CP‑189, and AIA/NAS 410 requirements.
  • Responsible for the preparation and validation of Standard Operating Procedures needed to perform nondestructive evaluations in accordance with industry, NASA, and customer standards.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the industrial radiographer radiation safety program in accordance with the State of Florida Radioactive Materials License and KSC Use Authorization.
  • Responsible for the development of maintenance instructions for NDE equipment.
  • Responsible for the review and approval of NDE inspection reports.
  • Responsible for conducting pre‑inspection walk‑downs with the customer when necessary to define the requirements and objectives of the NDE inspection, the physical and design features of the item, applicable reference standards, the test acceptance criteria, and the NDE methods to be employed.
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
