Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a Bridge Inspector to perform NBIS inspections across interstate, primary, secondary, and municipal bridges statewide. You will plan, execute, and document bridge condition assessments and recommend initial safety determinations.

You will prepare inspection reports, inventory sheets, and ensure timely completion per NBIS and federal guidelines. Daily work is logged in HMMS and EAMS, with coordination across offices and with contracted

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required for this role.
• Five years of bridge inspection experience is required under NBIS.
• Basic driving license and ability to operate field equipment are required.

Responsibilities

• Perform NBIS bridge inspections on interstate, primary, secondary, and municipal bridges statewide.
• Plan and document condition of bridges, and determine needed repairs.
• Enter daily work reports and bridge deficiencies in HMMS and EAMS; track project statuses.
• Coordinate with Bridge Management Office and contracted consultants on inspections and load postings.
• Assist during emergency or inclement weather operations and extended shifts as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
