Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a Bridge Inspector with supervisory duties to support planning, programming, and coordinating the state's bridge safety inspection program for interstate, primary, secondary, and municipal route bridges across districts and statewide.

The role involves periodic inspections of bridge substructures and superstructures, evaluation of rot, spalling, corrosion, scour, and damage, using BIRM, MBE, NBIS methods, and ensuring timely reports and QC on

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; six years of bridge inspection experience preferred per NBIS.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Knowledge of NBIS, BIRM, and AASHTO NBIS guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the district bridge inspection program and field inspections.
• QC/OA on inspections; prepare reports and structure inventories.
• Coordinate with Bridge Management Office, district engineers, and consultants.
• Enter daily work reports and bridge deficiencies in HMMS and EAMS.
• Instruct and train inspectors on safety and inspection tools and procedures.
• Assist in emergency or inclement weather operations.
