Job description

Responsibilities

SIGN ON BONUS is included as part of the offer for this role!

This job is located on-site in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

What You'll Do Day-to-Day:

  • Help Deck Division prepare for ATG and CREWCERT. Walk the crew through their line handling stations, boat deck, anchor detail, and UNREP stations so they know the layout of their ship before assessments begin.
  • Support Limited Training Teams (LTTs). Provide hands‑on assistance during training evolutions to help the crew build proficiency before certification events.
  • Conduct ship checks. Walk the weather decks verifying that equipment is installed correctly and matches specifications and drawings - pelican hooks, life rings, davits, UNREP gear, helo tie‑downs, etc.
  • Track equipment inventory. Verify that all required deck department gear is onboard, accounted for, and in the right location.
  • Bridge the gap between build specs and fleet requirements. When the shipyard built something to contract but the fleet needs it configured differently, you identify the disconnect and work with SUPSHIP and PMS 339 to resolve it.
  • Coordinate visits and inspections. Schedule and prepare for ATG walkdowns, ISIC visits, and other assessment events. Help the crew work through ASA checklists so they’re ready when inspectors arrive.
  • Research and answer deck department questions. When the crew needs to know what the spec says about a particular station or piece of equipment, you pull the drawings and documentation to find the answer.
  • Deconflict competing priorities. Shipyard work, training events, and inspections all happen simultaneously. You help sort out scheduling and access so nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Support aviation as needed. Assist with flight deck certification prep, tie‑down verification, and related tasks when requested.

Former Boatswain's Mates (BM) and Aviation Boatswain's Mates (AB) are encouraged to apply!

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma + 6 years of experience
    • At least 4 years must be relevant experience (preferable with Navy destroyers (DDG), amphibious Landing Platform Dock (LPD) and/or the amphibious Landing Helicopter Assault (LHA) naval platforms).
  • Must have a Secret clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • Must have experience in DECK operations and be knowledgeable of US Navy operating, certification, training and administrative procedures.
  • Must be able to physically maneuver on board US Navy ships including accessing high and confined spaces and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Experience with the MS Office suite of software, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Must be a US citizen.
Desired Qualifications
  • Senior enlisted DECK personnel with any Search and Rescue (SAR), small boat operations and ship aviation facility experience is desirable.
  • Boatswain's Mates (BM) and Aviation Boatswain's Mates (AB) who have stood sea and anchor detail, been through ATG cycles, and knows what "ready for sea" looks like on a destroyer.
  • Understanding of drawings and blueprints to support ships force.
