Description: Are you passionate about helping people navigate challenges, build meaningful connections, and create opportunities for a fresh start? Jefferson County is seeking a compassionate, resourceful, and adaptable Navigator Coach to support individuals impacted by the justice system, including those experiencing substance use challenges and individuals who frequently interact with multiple community service systems. This is an exciting opportunity to help build and shape a new program from the ground up! We're looking for someone who brings fresh ideas, takes initiative, and wants to have a voice in how the program develops. The right person will be comfortable navigating change, learning as they go, and helping establish processes and approaches that best serve the individuals and communities we support. In this grant-funded position, you'll work in partnership with Justice Services to connect with individuals while they are in jail and support their transition back into the community. You'll build trusting relationships, identify immediate needs, connect participants with essential resources, and help them establish goals that support long‑term stability and success. You'll also be part of a collaborative navigation team that supports a variety of populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness, families facing housing instability, and families needing additional community support. We're looking for a people person who thrives on connection, collaboration, and creative problem‑solving. Someone who communicates effectively, builds authentic relationships, and can earn the trust of individuals who may have experienced negative interactions with public systems or the justice system. Success in this role requires empathy, patience, flexibility, and a willingness to adapt when things don't go as planned. You'll need to be comfortable sharing your perspective, contributing ideas, and figuring things out along the way. If you're energized by building something new, passionate about helping people overcome barriers, and excited to be part of a team making a meaningful difference, we'd love to hear from you! You may be a great fit for this position if you: You connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds, listen without judgment, and establish rapport with people who may have experienced barriers or negative interactions with public systems. You understand that progress isn't always linear and can support individuals through setbacks, difficult conversations, and changing circumstances. You're comfortable navigating unfamiliar situations, asking questions, researching solutions, and figuring things out as you go. You can identify barriers, connect people with appropriate services, and find creative ways to help individuals move forward. You can establish professional boundaries, maintain accurate records, follow through on commitments, and manage multiple participant needs. You work effectively with justice partners, community organizations, and service providers to coordinate support.
This position operates primarily in person, with the option of a four- or five‑day workweek, to be discussed with the hiring manager. The role requires off‑site community outreach and mobile work to support participants and connect them with resources. Some schedule flexibility is necessary to meet program and participant needs, including occasional evening hours.
This is a hands‑on, community‑focused position that involves working directly with individuals in a jail setting and supporting their transition back into the community. Every participant's circumstance will be different, and priorities may shift quickly. You'll need to be comfortable working independently, collaborating with justice and community partners, and navigating situations where the next step isn't always clear. Work may involve working alone with groups of justice involved individuals.
