Job summary

Job Details:

Purpose: Develop mechanical components for high frequency sonar systems in the Advanced Technology Laboratory (ATL) with ARL:UT.

Responsibilities

• Assembly, test, production, and validation of hardware at the component and system level.
• Design and development of mechanical packaging for high frequency sonar applications.
• Development of structural mechanical components for electronics packaging.
• Development of transducer and sonar assembly tooling.
• Maintenance of design documentation, production procedures, and mechanical part and assembly drawings.
• Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related technical area.
• Familiarity with mechanical design involving product development from concept, to detailed design, to manufacturing.
• Demonstrated experience in design and development of mechanical components using SolidWorks computer-aided design (CAD) tools.
• Experience interfacing with vendors and machine shops to procure mechanical components.
• Experience and training with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member with and without daily supervision, work several overlapping projects over a short period of time, ability to work within an environment with rapidly changing priorities, and effectively communicate with all groups of clients.
• Able to work under pressure and accept supervision.
• Regular and punctual attendance.
• US Citizen.
• Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate for the position.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Two or more years of professional experience as a mechanical engineer in a design-oriented position.
• Experience in the mechanical design and specification of electronic printed circuit card assemblies and thermal cooling systems.
• Experience as a mechanical engineer in an industrial production position.
• Experience performing finite element analysis (FEA) for structural analysis of mechanical components using SolidWorks Simulation or equivalent software.
• Experience in the mechanical design and specification of high frequency transducer assemblies and associated assembly tooling.
• Experience in the mechanical design of sonar system support.
• Experience soldering and performing manual machining or welding.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0

Salary Range

$88,500-$120,000+/negotiable depending on qualifications.
