Job summary

Austal USA is seeking a Preventive Maintenance Team Member for Naval/Commercial ships under construction at its Mobile, AL facility. The role focuses on preventing equipment failures by performing planned maintenance, checks, and lubrication to keep systems ready for activation.

Ideal candidates will have up to one year of relevant maintenance experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and familiarity with shipbuilding procedures. Prior Navy/Maritime exposure is a plus.

Qualifications

• 0–1 year of maintenance/safety/mechanical install experience in shipyard, marine, aerospace or offshore environment.
• Demonstrated troubleshooting skills.
• General understanding of mechanical and electrical propulsion and electrical power generating equipment.
• Basic understanding of diesel engines and gas turbines helpful.
• Ability to read and understand ship construction drawings and testing procedures.
• Ability to make safe, protective decisions for expensive machinery.
• Experience ensuring equipment readiness for installation or operation of marine equipment.
• Ability to read, understand, and fill out engineering logs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct preventive maintenance according to a schedule of planned actions to prevent breakdowns.
• Establish and follow maintenance schedule; plan and conduct maintenance.
• Perform equipment checks, oil changes, lubrication, and other preventive procedures.
• Record equipment conditions including deterioration and corrosion.
• Follow procedures and manuals to schedule and perform job functions.
• Ensure systems readiness for activation.
• Understand Austal USA procedures (POS 103, 126, 127, 130).
