Job summary

Prescient Edge is seeking a Mid Mechanical Engineer to support the U.S. Navy MUSV program, focusing on mechanical systems engineering, verification, and lifecycle sustainment across the vessel’s propulsion, steering, hydraulics, cooling, and fuel subsystems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience with propulsion, machinery, pumps, valves, piping, hydraulics, or related systems.
  • Ability to perform engineering analysis, troubleshoot mechanical-system deficiencies, interpret drawings and documentation, and develop recommendations.
  • Experience with design, integration, test and evaluation, inspection, repair, modernization, or lifecycle engineering of mechanical systems.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical interfaces with electrical power, controls, sensors, and related systems.
  • Ability to meet SECRET clearance and site-access requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical engineering support for propulsion, steering, fuel, cooling, bilge, hydraulic, piping, pumping, ventilation, and auxiliary machinery systems on MUSVs.
  • Evaluate engines, pumps, valves, piping, heat exchangers, and mounts for performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Perform analyses, trade studies, and evaluations to resolve mechanical-system issues and support design, alteration, repair, modernization, and acceptance decisions.
  • Review and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment specifications, piping diagrams, interface documentation, manuals, vendor data, and procedures.
  • Lead or support root-cause analysis of mechanical deficiencies affecting propulsion, steering, fluids, cooling, machinery, and other subsystems.
  • Assess mechanical interfaces with electrical power, controls, sensors, software, and autonomy to identify cross-subsystem impacts.
  • Support engineering change evaluation, configuration management, documentation, repair planning, obsolescence management, and lifecycle sustainment.
  • Coordinate with Marine Systems Engineers, electrical engineers, Government engineers, operators, logisticians, vendors, OEMs, and maintenance personnel to resolve deficiencies.
  • Test, acceptance & verification work on mechanical systems in lab, waterfront, shipboard, industrial, and field environments.
  • Develop or review mechanical drawings, reports, calculations, inspection findings, and decision-support materials.
  • Support planning, scheduling, risk identification, and workflow improvement for mechanical-system acceptance and lifecycle activities.
