Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), offers CNC Machinist positions to graduates of the Workshops for Warriors program. Trainees will gain on-the-job training in a high-performance shipyard environment.

Ideal candidates have CNC machining experience or completion of the Workshops for Warriors CNC Machining 1 program, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and in a team.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the Workshops for Warriors CNC Machining 1 program (640hours/16weeks)
• Pre-employment drug screen, physical abilities test, and background check

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain a variety of manual and CNC equipment (lathes, mills, vertical/m horizontal machines)
• Assist in machine setup, tool changes, and program loading
• Perform in-process quality inspections against drawings and specs
• Troubleshoot machining issues and document corrective actions
• Follow safety, quality, and documentation procedures to meet NNS standards
